Tanks are'nt stamped for more than 12 months if they were properly tested.

And they're stamped with the test date, not a "valid until" date. Possibly you saw 2013 as part of a serial number (it's confusing, there's a shitload of numbers on them) or saw an 03 stamp and assumed it was 10 years like everything else...

Size can be had from the numbers too - can you copy them up for us maybe?

okay, after closer examination it appears the tank was last tested (or good till) 3/96!! (and Matt it appears to be Ally)

I think I will be taking this to the scrap metal yard.

            FWIW:

Luxfer had a dodgy batch of ali tanks made with the wrong alloy which were susceptible to sustained load fractures particularly at the neck. These tanks have been responsible for loss of life and limb and, after the latest incident last year (or was it the year before now?) in Southwest Rocks NSW, most test stations refuse to take the tanks.

Fortunately for you, the last of these tanks was manufactured in 1992 so there is probably nothing wrong with this cylinder. No need to scrap it - whoever buys it will need to get it hydroed for around $30 and at $80 total it's still a cheap tank with most likely plenty of life left. You won't know without the hydro.

Other option, datsikk, is to take it to Australian Safety Engineers in Canningvale and get it tested yourself, then sell it tested and good for $100.
