  • Fixing redirects or shortcuts to forum?

I think one of the first things is to try and fix the original links if possible so that anyone trying to get here from old links or saved shortcuts like I did can find the forum

As it is anyone trying their old shortcuts or even a Google search just comes up with dead links and could think the forum is gone for good

I think the only way ppl know this link exists is through FB. I wouldn't have found it otherwise.
I know it's temporary as things are being worked through but I think a lot of the userbase is likely to have left by now. I will always have a fondness for this place but I must admit that while I've missed PSB, I am less inclined to visit right now as it's difficult to navigate and at any one time there's about 2 members on. It has been a long time with little communication.

I haven't said anything to date/made suggestions as I am not a paid supporter so don't feel I have a right to do so. I also know that IT database management is voluntary. I will however be a supporter when it comes back to being a functional forum.

To keep people around, maybe enable a redirect if possible? Maybe a message at the top of the forum about how long it might take and what the new layout will be. What I see as essential is a new posts button and the ability to go to the first unread post rather than trying to remember what page you were up to last visit.

I can see a 'latest activity' option but only shows latest threads created. As per previous, showing threads with new posts fostered more activity because as it is now, if you want to post in an existing thread you have to navigate through the sub-forums to find the thread.

The original URL of "http://perthstreetbikes.com" works fine - takes you to the main title page, and then redirects to "https://forum.perthstreetbikes.com" If it didn't, I would not have been aware that the forum is back up - I just clicked on my PSB link/favourite/shortcut/whatever you want to call it in Chrome.

Ah, so it does. It wasn't for me earlier. I was refreshing a tab and it didn't work, but opened a new one and all good.

For me on Edge I get nothing but this vvv when I try my shortcuts, do a Google search, follow old links or putting either http or https in the search bar, nothing works
                "Hmmm... cannot reach this page
                Try this
Make sure that you’ve got the right web address: https://www.perthstreetbikes.com
                Search for "https://www.perthstreetbikes.com" on Bing

                Refresh the page"

With IE11 I get "Cannot reach this page
Make sure the web address https://www.perthstreetbikes.com is correct
                BUT IF I put
http://perthstreetbikes.com in the search bar I get the main page and can follow that in I don't use Chrome so have no idea whether that works?

It's the "s" in https that is screwing you up - if you put in http://www.perthstreetbikes.com in any browser it should work fine.(does for me.) Will redirect you to https://forum.perthstreetbikes.com.

Is anyone using PSB on Tapatalk yet? I can't get the login to work even though the forum is showing that it is still there?

For Tapatalk to work, the appropriate plugin needs to be installed into the forum software. Highly unlikely that it has been, given this is a bare bones install.

Yeah that's the funny thing, as I mentioned above I was trying that with http://www.perthstreetbikes.com and it worked on IE11 but not Edge and that was on both my PC and laptop running W10
A bit more fiddling and it appears when I pasted http://www.perthstreetbikes.com into the browser it was auto defaulting to "https" for some reason
If I put http://www.perthstreetbikes.com into a Google search (not the bar at the top) then it does bring up the new forum.perthstreetbikes.com at the top of the searches but that is only now that I know the "s" is the issue and that it is defaulting to that

One possible thing that can be done is for the Administrator to send a "bulk" group email to all the email addresses listed on the site that people used when they joined
I'm pretty sure it's possible as I did it many years ago as Admin on OzBB after it crashed, there was a setting in vB that allowed you to type a message and have it go to every user's email that was listed in the database
Not only did it let the regular users know that the forum was back up and running but a few members that hadn't been on in a while came back as well
