  • Is there a Doctor in the house??

I have a question in regards to injuries sustained in a bike accident, Dec last year.

I'm still experiencing a fair amount of back pain and my employer seems to want to restrict me from riding a motorcycle full stop. Being in the Defence Force, you hear of this a fair bit.

Well someone is going to try and tell me or at least advise me not to ride a bike ever again if I'm in so much pain.

I've found it to be more comfortable riding a bike than driving a car. I start to get a lot of lower and mid back pain if I'm sitting or standing for more than 20 minutes or so and have to either sit down or stand up. My experience in a car has been that I really can't move around as much as I can on a bike. Everytime I stop at lights or a stop sigh on my bike I can stand up, stretch and move around. I can also change the riding position from the leaning over to sitting upright position whenever I feel uncomfortable. In a car, this isn't possible to do unless I stop the vehicle and get out.

Has anyone else ever been in this situation or have it in black and white that riding a bike shouldn't be as much of a restriction?

    You're input would be appreciated.

i got a friend in the army who hurt her back (or had it hurt for her)

she also only rides a bike and has basically found the exact same thing as u .. she cant drive a car comfortably ..but she can ride ok ..

i can ask her wat she has said and done to make them understand..

it will just be a week as she is away doing fun army type things...
Some say he eats sidchrome for breakfast

Some say he only showers on even days of the week

Some say he put an R1 motor in a coffee machine

All we know is he's Hewie.

im going though the same right now. i hurt my lower back some how last week. driving a car was making it worse riding the bike the pain went away. i told the doc this the other day and he said ok the ride rather then drive. maybe you just need to get a second and get a recommendation on it from another Doc.

I've been seeing a physio since my T-Bone in may. Actually had my last physio sess today. Anyways my injury was in the neck where basically I ruptured (so they seem to think) a heap of small muscles that control fine movement of your head. Basically If i look left to right slowly my head jitters like I am trying to look around on a streetfighter at 260+kph (AND THIS IS F*(KING hard )

Anyway my physio has actually said that riding is the best thing I can do in a _passive_ sort of exercise since I am actually re-training my brain to use the good muscles and helping the weak ones grow strong.

I know this is diff for lower back pain but all i can say is see a Physio who will crack your back in 2 times a week (I was seeing physio 3 times per week for first few weeks) then get ur ass to a gym and start doing some strenght/stretch exercises. IF this injury is accident related you can claim it all on State Insurance Commission.

With my accident I had prob close to 40 Physio sessions.
Anyway I know back pain since I have to lift heavy shit every day at work, best medicine for me has been going to gym, and that way your good muscles can support your damaged/weak ones while they get better etc..
                    Will you insure me?!

Hey FraG, thanks man. Well this is where I'm at now. I had my accident on the 1st of December last year, been seeing a physio 2 to 4 times a fortnight and a doctor once every two weeks as well. Got a claim through the Insurance Commission of WA and having most medical bills paid through there.

Movement can sometimes be really good, feeling no pian till later on that night. When my muscles are cold then thats it, damn well hurts a hell of a lot more, night times and mornings are the pits!!

As for riding the bike, well it's been good till recently where I've felt lower back pain after a ride. There's a huge dispute within the navy as I said, they think I'm faking it but try and prove that you're in pain to them, it's hard!

There's a lot more but can't say to much now but to be honest with you guys, well I've got 6 to 12 months to look for a new job. Thems the breaks eh. :?
