The only thing is that tapping a helmet has traditionally been used by motorcycle clubs worldwide to tell someone to switch on their headlamp or that their headlight is on high beam.
The signal to warn of police in the vicinity is normally to extend the index finger and thumb at 90 degrees to each other with other fingers tucked in to make a 'pistol' gesture ('bang, bang' - like cowboys and indians).
