  • Blackbird Sat Nav Mounting

    Hey,

I have a Garmin Zumo 400 and the connections for it from my last bike. I tried to mount it on the handlebars of the Blackbird but there isnt enough space, and when turning its knocking into my tank bag. Ive done a bit of research then to see where people mount sat navs on their Blackbird and it apears that a central ball mount like this one on ebay is uesd:

NEW Stainless Steel SAT NAV BAR Fits Honda Blackbird | eBay

The ball will connect onto the rest of the sat nav mounting kit that I have. The quesion I have is, how do I get it on and will this one fit my bike? There is a circular rubber gasket which I pulled out of the center of the bars and it looks like a large Allen Key will loosen it. Im just not sure that the new ram mount for the sat nave will screw back on to the top of the bars in the same way?

    Any advice?

Normally mounts like these have a length of allthread that goes through the hole and tighten with a nut and washer under the lower of triple clamps. So as long as the allthread fits through the hole it would mount up to your bike.

Edit: closer inspection of eBay page reveals this mount does not mount up that way. There is this kind of mount

        Sambo,

The mount you have identified will have a length of threaded rod which you slide into the hole at the headstock. This rod has a rubber tube over it and then a self tightening nut mechanism at the bottom.
Basically as you tighten from the top, the rubber gets squashed up and this is what keeps it tight in the hole. (Which is always good LOL)
Dead easy to fit but that's really expensive compared to the ones on Mobile Phone Accessories | Netbook Accessories | Free UK Delivery :: [ BuyBits ] I mentioned before. They are about £15.

It bolts through the cap on the top there with the hex hole, it is hollow underneath and covers the locknuts for the top bearing I'd say they just polished their top nut under the ball themselves
The other way is run some threaded rod all the way through to the bottom of the lower triple and put some large washers and a nut on and mount a RAM ball

            Hi Jock,

I did check out that site but the honda mount does not seem to list the Blackbird on their compatibility list. Plus its black so when the sat nav is off the bike It wont match up with the stainless look of the bike. But Im not overlie fussy about that as I will probably leave it on the bike. At least the picture when the nut is taken off gives me an idea of how it may attach itself
