I've done perth to kalbarri a couple of times. Joondalup to lancelin is ok, lancelin to Cervantes is nice roads, though straight lines mostly, couple of worthwhile lookouts. North of jurien bay is the worst stretch, watch out for boat trailers drifting into your lane around blind corners.
Kangaroos were my biggest paranoia, in some stretches the shrubbery is pretty close to the road. Early morning and evening would be reasonably suicidal.Originally posted by JIM.55knowlage dosnt always trumph

Drive it frequently.
Can't imagine the actual riding being much fun, as mentioned it is very straight for the most part once you get past Lancelin. Be very careful around the Yanchep turnoffs as there are trees close to the shoulder and a lot of speed limit changes and frequented by speed cameras (rear facing)
Lookouts are good though, Nilgen is a good one. Take your boardies and jump in for a dip at Wedge Island in front of the shacks there, accessible by car/bike and a 150m walk.

Yeah its worth doing.
But I absolutely can not stand the drive from Wanneroo to Lancelin, its so boring. Lancelin to Cervantes down the 'new' road is ok.
Sometimes you can get some pretty crazy cross winds going up there, as you get closer to the coast past Lancelin. Other worries are Lancelin Cops and wildlife - echidnas, emus and roos, but they're usually ok during the day.
I prefer the old way up the Brand Hwy, and cutting in near Badgingarra past the wind farm, but its over half hour longer, and more chance of Roo's even in the middle of the day.

Will be a more interesting route for the bike anyway. The new highway is great, but not as much fun for a bike.
Perhaps go via the inland way on the way up, then just putt down the coast on the way home.

Yeah, we stopped there for a feed on our trip to Jurien Bay. Straight roads, couple cops, not bad. Just watch out for the winds when you get close to the coast as it gets pretty strong.
Speaking of which, tank-wombat, we still haven't rode together yet!
