  • Muffler packing.. where to buy?

Need/want to repack the mufflers on my kwaka. Does anyone know somewhere around Perth or suburbs that I can get it from. Anywhere from Midland to Rockingham would be good. Either mat or loose will do the job. But gonna need a fair bit as have two mufflers to pack, so cheap er the better. Or bulk buy for 2-3kg worth.

Around $15 each packet any motorbike store should have it in stock.

Mat around the core and then pack the loose around it.

Thanks desmo. Any advice on stopping the perforated core from vibrating on the outlet tip of the exhaust?

Not really, the cap should be a pretty snug fit.
Depending on how it's assembled, you could alway (very) gently flare the cap or the core over a form until it's a snug fit.

Don't flame me for being a dick.. could I use pink batts? There's not much difference between that and muffler packing is there? They are both fibreglass mat... is it worth trying pink batts?

Scrap that. I can't be bothered with trial and error. I'll do it right the first time

You could and it has been done but you'll end up needing to repack it quicker than using the proper stuff.

Interesting. Does it blow out quicker because of its lack of density or because of its lack of heat resistance compared to muffler packing? Could I use a first layer of packing then pink bats for a good result or will it still blow out quicker

                              It's a finer material, it'll degrade/blow out quicker.
If you're going to the trouble of pulling your cans apart, use the proper stuff.
