  • Put a dent in the tank with my leg by riding?

There appears to be an indentation on right hand side groove of the tank where the knee usually sits. It isnt a noticeable dent, and the only reason I know about it now is it created a bump location of the leg thigh area that pops in and out when pressure is applied. I released the pressure inside the petrol tank by opening the lid, that seemed to reduced that popping, so at least it doesnt pop in and out making sounds as ride anymore. It wasnt there this morning, but as rode the bike in the arvo I came to know the issue pretty well, most annoying to have a dent in the tank and not knowing where it came from.

My question is, is it possible to apply enough pressure with the knee/leg whilst braking that can cause the fuel tank to warp?

The bike was never dropped on the right hand side, nor was it tampered with before the dent. Could someone shine some light on this issue, maybe a solution too?

Gixxer tanks are pretty sturdy !

Did you buy it new ?

Rude question I guess but you a big bloke ?

I can't see your leg denting it tbh.

Not a huge fella, only twiddle around 90. Is there any combination of negative pressire from inside the tank and me pushing my leg on that grove to cause to indent. The dent is more like an indent that leg curve grove is sitting in more on the right than left now. Bike was brand new two years old now, will it still have warranty? I hate to think I will be stuck with the popping sound for what feels like forever.

, Just checked it, the popping from slight force is gone now. Seems to be back to good shape, but hard to tell in dim lighting of the moonlight and my torch. I have just never herd of pressure inside the tank causing the tank itself to warp.

Tank cover might have been loose? Do you leave it out in the sun?

Check that your fuel tank breather is working...

Gixxers don't have tank covers, what you see is the tank. If your tank makes a "woosh" sound of air when you pop the cap, your breather tubes are blocked. Lift the tank by taking off the 2 velcroed side covers, removing the riders seat and removing the 2 bolts at the front of the tank, as you lift it you will see 2 rubber hoses connected centrally under the tank. Wiggle them to check they are loose/free. They should run down the left hand side fairings to the belly pan clip infront of the gear shift, check they aren't pinched in the clip.

I had a keyless gas cap on the track bike that never seemed to vent like it should have and if I didn't open it every session I'd have to get the big shifter out to get it undone. It's surprising how much suction can build up if the air can't get in to replace the fuel.

It was a shit looking cap anyway that also ended up splashing fuel over the tank whenever you opened it due to a crap design so replaced it with a Evotech 1/4 turn piece of porn.
