  • exhaust on it's way!

EXCELLENT! i just got off the phone to revlimiter racing in amreica (damn time zones) my micron cans are on their way for the 04 R1. (it feels a bit wierd ordering stuff before i even have the bike but oh well) i couldn't get the colours i wanted from australia cos of crappy contracts the importer has with micron UK. the cans were $740 american plus $30 shipping which works out to about $950 aus. the cheapest the australian guy would do was like $1390 plus shipping for a set of stainless steel, so i saved F***ing heaps and got exactly what i wanted.

It's worth trying for a lower price too cos originally they quoted me for $800, and another lot quoted $740 but their shipping was heaps more, so i emailed revlimiter back and asked them to match the price and they did. Anyways, i'm like a kid in a candy shop! lisa and shane at revlimiter were a pleasure to deal with, recomend them to anyone tryin to get stuff from overseas. www.revlimiterracing.com

heres a pic of the ones i got (if i can get it to work)

Just beware, you'll need to pay import duty (not sure if this is 10% or not?) on the cost of the exhaust itself, as well as GST on the shipping cost.

This import "issue" has reared it's head a few times just lately. It's always the "oh you'll have to pay duty" arguement but noone seems to know exactly what could be applied to imported goods. I say go for it Hooter, personally I think the cans look great and i'm sure you'll be really happy with them when they get on the new beast.

For your info I did some research at the custom's website and found this information. Yes, you may have to pay duty, but in the long run it may be worth it if this is what you want, and the local importers can't get it.

If it's something like Hewie's shoes (heh double entendre...i like it) go with the local retailer for all the reasons hashed out before.

Here is the relevant section from the custom's website.

This information is intended as a guide. If you need more information or you are not
sure of the requirements that apply to you, email [email protected]. You
can also contact a Customs Information Centre on 1300 363 263 from anywhere in
        Australia or +61 2 6275 6666 from outside Australia

Indirect taxes – GST, WET, LCT
Imported goods might be subject to one or more indirect taxes. These indirect taxes
comprise the Goods and Service Tax (GST), the Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) and the
        Luxury Car Tax (LCT).
        Goods and Services Tax (GST)
GST applies to most imported goods. There are few exemptions from the GST, the main
ones being certain foodstuffs, some medical aids and appliances and imports that qualify
        for certain customs duty concessions.
Subject to eligibility criteria, importers who are registered for GST might be able to defer
the payment on imported goods by participating in the Deferred GST Scheme.
Participants in the scheme can account for importations in their first Business Activity
Statement (BAS) after they make an importation. Importers can apply to defer GST
through the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) on 1300 130 915. Further information on
deferral can be obtained by emailing [email protected]
GST is applied at 10 per cent of the value of the taxable importation (VoTI). The value of
the taxable importation is the sum of:
        • the customs value of the imported goods, and
        • any customs duty payable, and
        • the amount paid or payable to transport the goods to Australia and to insure the
        goods for that transport, and
        • any wine tax payable (see following section).
The following example shows how GST liability is calculated:
        AU$
        Customs value 1,000.00
        Customs duty @ 5 per cent x $1,000 50.00 (Payable)
        International transport and insurance 150.00
Wine tax (if applicable - see following section) 0.00
        VoTI 1,200.00
        GST @ 10 per cent x $1,200 120.00 (Payable)
Total payable (customs duty + GST) 170.00
Or read it for yourself at http://www.customs.gov.au/site/index.cfm?n...d=670&area_id=5

        -edit-

Call your purchase $1000 AUD for arguement sake, this means you MAY (not will) have to pay $170 in Government Sponsored Theft.

You're still saving 200 bucks AND getting what you want.

Can't wait to see the end result...

Ive ordered a fair few things from US (new & 2nd hand) and never knowingly paid any?

Cans look sweet as, and yeah I agree with you about buying from us!
I am in process of getting GSXR1000 rotors (OEM) for around $100-130 for 2 at my door ($400 odd each new!)... mmmm ebay
            Will you insure me?!

              import duty

I just had a heap of knives posted in from the US. Customs opened the box and checked them out but no extra tax or anything.
I've never been slugged but thinking it will happen soon. Just gotta factor it into the price and if it gets through, bonus.

make sure you ask for insurance, just incase it doesnt arrive.$30 sounds to cheap to get it sent over unless its buy boat.if it is its between 4-6 weeks.i always us ups and most of the time its here in 3 weeks max.i ordered a muffler and pipe for my KTM 3weeks ago and im still waitng.
id say you will have to pay tax.....etc,as i,ve always had to on something that size.hopefully they walk straight past it.

hmmm..i wonder how much to get an 04 r1 shipped over....
if it's labelled as "defect replacement" it should pass the customs right through..
