  • Big bikes for small people

Ok I'm a short guy but would like to at least ride 600cc bike. I have tried on many 600cc of all sorts and calibre and still find I am too short. I am only 165cm at most and thats with low profile sneakers on. The only bike I just fit on is ZZR600, is there any other bikes that are willing to cater short people?

Also the dealers are saying they can lower the bike but then they go on saying how it is not safe because you are altering the bikes dynamics.

Any suggestions and recommendation from you bike-ies out there?

One of my mates who is also pretty short, rides a GSXR-1000. He had his seat modified (1" of foam cut out and reshaped) which made a huge difference.

I'm sure any good upholsterer could do this for you at a good price.......

my wife rides(or is learning to) a Yamaha YZF 600 and she finds it very comfortable and she can reach the ground easy, She is about 5'6'' don't no what that is in cm's..

There were 2 at the causeway shops if you wanna try them for size.

usually it is the width of the bikes seat that is the most important bit, cause that makes your legs spread wider so making it harder to put your feet straight to the ground. but as the others say, just try them all out down at causeway, and you will find one soon.

by the way, my girlfriend is not much taller than you, about 168 or so, but she fits on a 95 CBR900RR, with both feet flat on the ground, so give one of them a go......

Have you sat on the 04 R6?? Im nearly flat foot on that and Im always sooking about seat height. So long as you can have one foot on the ground at the lights and are skilled enough to move the bike around with without being on it you will be fine, or rather its something you learn to put up with.

                Goodluck!

That is the main problem for me.

Nearly flat footed on both legs I assume? Meaning you toeing it down? How tall are you gpx_gal?

Thanks for all your suggestions peoples. Now i gotta reconsider my options. Was going to get a good 250cc bike and use it until I grow more (fat chance). Now I guess I gotta go back to the dealers and sit on bigger bikes. I'm really concerned about the width of the seat esp as I am short and slim.

just remember that, as someone said above, the dealers will get the seat reshaped for you if that will help sell a bike, especially a new one. talk to them about it when ya go in......

                      Low seat height

The Honda CBR600F4/F4i series has a very low seat height and riding position that suits the vertically challenged among us.

They are also a great all-round bike and make for comfy everyday riding as well as being capable of blowing away many a bigger bike at the track in stock standard form. Just like this:

i think i'm about the same height as you dnd maybe even shorter at about 163 to the 165 mark and i ride an rgv250 and it feels fine. I thought it was a bit high at first cos my feet weren't flat on the ground when i sat on it with the bike totally upright but after a while it feels totally natural having the bike slightly tilted at the lights Having never ridden a bigger bike i can't say much about the 600's but i've sat on a few along with some 1000's and i have to say they actually feel lower than my current bike! Maybe I was disillusioned but go give it a shot and you might find the same

Kneedown, I'll second that! In fact my bike is a tad small for me I think.

I'm approx 185cm and from sitting position I can stand up and lift myself clear off the seat, I dont know how much difference 20 odd cm's in height makes but it cant be that much, unless you're a wog with stumpy legs
                          mmmmm sacrilicious

i am only just taller than mastrmage, and i could stand clear of the TLR, and that is a big bike..... definately try the new R6, that was tiny for me, and the ZX6R too, thin seats as well.

Flat foot with both feet. Im 168cm. I have to force my heal the last few mm on the R6, but when the bike settles im sure Id be flat foot no worries.

Its all about the width of the bike like Bulbous said. The 04 600s (636, R6, GSXR, CBR) boast pretty much the same seat height, apart from the CBR coming in at 5mm highter than the rest, yet I found some to feel taller than others i.e. CBR, GSXR, 636, R6 (going from highest to lowest). Oh and the triumph daytona 600.. that was HUGE!! I didnt even bother trying to wrench that up!

I found the more I was sitting on the bikes the more comfortable I became, so you will probably get over it, and as people have said you can cut down and shape the seat (not that there is much padding!!) and play with the suspension settings. I didnt find the F4i all that bad in height (It was one of the first 600s I rode and dont remember much) but personally the bike to me was uncomfortable, as with the R6. So you may have to trade height for what suits you.

Just try everything you can sit on, and try the different years to, like the 04 and 03 gixxers are totaly different. And if you find anything that suits this height bracket, please let me know!

                              Good luck!
