  • can you stretch leather gloves?

okay i have some old shoei winter gloves at home but the problem is that they are a bit small and after a while my hands get numb (not from the cold though , just to tight). their good gloves and i dont want to have to buy another pair of winter gloves so i was wondering if you could somehow stretch the leather without stuffing them?

ps their lined with wool, not sure if it matters

    thanks in advance people

I had the same problem with my riding gloves (horse) and they are leather (lined). I shoved as much scrunched up newspaper into them as I could, left them for awhile and that worked......depends how small the gloves are and how big ya hands are!!!

      bugger got big hands.

problem with horse riding gloves, the leather is made to be soft to give you plenty of feel for the bit so are easily stretched, with that said though they are fairly hardy.

but yeah thanks for that ill might try that (cant hurt), i wonder if you oil'ed em first if it'd work better?

just curious what sort of horse have you got? my better half is looking to go riding with someone soon (only got the one).

If you don't mind the discomfort wet then thoroughly and ride with em wet until dry. Leather always stretches better when wet.

Stuff them with wet paper/rags and let them dry and keep repeating. Thats wot I did with mine. Perfect now.

But after they are the required shape make sure you use some dubbin wax to protect them. But don't put the wax on the fingers/palm areas!

thanks for that pure power and cbr1k (lucky sod ) ill give that a go. makes sense when you think about it.

another question when you been riding in the rain and your jacket etc etc is wet is better just to let em dry normally or chuck im in front of a heater along with oneself?

I always let my jacket / riding gear drip dry...

Never had a prob that way.
I think you'll find that if you dry em with heat, then you can easily damage the material.

Drying them with heat can make the oils etc leech out of the leather.

Just stick them somewhere with plenty of airflow or a fan.

when i was in the army we used to put our new boots in water and wear them till they were dry this way they molded to our feet.

                this should work with gloves

we really drowned the boots. made them really comfortable.

i believe there is some kind of spray u can spray on them that helps to stretch the leather.
                  try a cobbler for it.
