          I think you'll find that there is already a company using a similar (if not the same) material for riding gear...

          Remember reading some posts and articles about it last year.

              Yeah, that sort of gear. It's called a non-Newtonian fluid (wiki page here: Non-Newtonian fluid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ). It's stuff that hardens up when a force is applied to it.
