  • Service Advice

My Honda VTR250 is 25months old but it's only done a little over 4,000km...

It had a 600km service (changed oil and oil filter) at 9 months old and a 1,400km service (?) at 15 months old, before I acquired it at 22 months old with 3,300km on it. And I just cleaned and lubed the chain today.

So I was wondering what advice people have for me on servicing?

    For the 24month / 24,000km service...the service manual says I have to:
    - Clean the Crankcase Breather.
    - Replace the spark plug, engine oil and engine oil filter.
    - And Inspect and Clean, Adjust Lubricate or Replace if necessary the following...
    Fuel Line
    Throttle Operation
    Carburetor Choke
    Air Cleaner
    Valve Clearance
    Carburetor Synchronisation
    Engine Idly Speed
    Radiator Coolant
    Cooling System
    Drive Chain
    Drive Chain Slider
    Brake Fluid
    Brake Shoe / Pad Wear
    Brake System
    Brake Light Switch
    Headlight Aim
    Clutch System
    Side Stand
    Suspension
    Nuts, Bolts, Fasteners
    Wheels / Tyres
    Steering Head Bearings

But seeing as although it is over 2 years old, it's hardly got any ks on it... I was wondering what I realistically should be doing, surely not all of that? It's still hardly been broken in

So in short, my question is... what is dependent on time lapsed rather that kms travelled?

all the fluids as in clutch and brake fluids would be my recomendation, and generally grease up all the moving parts.
then just go around all the nuts and bolts and check for tightness.

Do it all, that list isnt as bad as it looks, mostly just inspections, ie: does the throttle operate smoothly and snap return by itself, yep..check, does the choke work, yep...check, take radiator cap off, coolant full, coolant up to level in over flow bottle, yep...check etc etc the only two you would have to get a mechanic to do would be valve clearances and carb sync, if its running ok and not rattling i wouldnt bother, in reality the valve clearances should be fine at 4k's. Apart from those two things all the rest should take about an hour and a half to do properly, that includes oil change
