  • Buying a 2nd hand ZX12R

    Hi all,

As the tittle says I've got a lead on the above bike and not being super technical when it comes to bikes what kind of things should I look for when I go to see it / ride it?

Also if possible can you tell me how to check said things?

I really would like to learn how to look after my bike and this seemed like a good way to start before I buy a new one. So any help I get will be greatly apriciated and applied in my buying of a new bike

    cheers

    Banwaa

if you don't have good technical knowledge call up a mechanic and get them to do the once over for you if you are serious.

              Usual stuff would be
check the forks, brakes, sprockets, tyres and chain.

when test riding make sure it doesnt hop out of gear under power.

yeah get MDH tuning (very fussy) out for it cause there can be alot of problems with an abused ZX12R

I'd also add - the later model ZX12s had improved brakes - this would be worth keeping in mind if you're in the market for one in general and considering different examples...
“Crashing is shit for you, shit for the bike, shit for the mechanics and shit for the set-up,” Checa told me a while back. “It’s a signal that you are heading in the wrong direction. You want to win but crashing is the opposite. It’s like being in France when you want to go to England and when you crash you go to Spain. That way you’ll never get to England!” -- Carlos Checa
