  • Phillip Island GP!

Here's a controversial issue I'm surprised hasn't come up on the BB yet (to my knowledge!)

How many of you perthies are riding over to Phillip Island for the GP? I've driven from Yulara down to Port Augusta and through SA over WA to Perth, and that's longer than from here to Melbourne, but on a bike it's a different ball game all together. Has anyone done such a ride, in a short time-span? My circle of mates have been talking about goin' for it but I think I'll be layed up in bed recuperating for a week when I get there.

Perhaps an option is to get the bike trained over there? I'm gonna make some enquiries with some transit people, if anyone's interested I'll post some responses.

We're likely to be in Melbourne the whole of October and I dont think I could go without my bike for that length of time. - See the dilemma? Hee hee

Anyway, it's nice to keep the forum alive!

I spoke to a friend about doing a ride to Melb for the GP and he did some fact finding and for something like a couple hundred bucks you can get yourself and your bike on the train and taken to melb, by far the best option in my book

The Perth Extreme "Road Trip" is next year.

We hire a 6 person camper trailer complete with Satelite TV, hitch a covered trailer with six bikes in it on the back and we drive, ride, sleep, drive, drink, sleep ride, ride, all the way to Mecca.

        Bring on 04 GP.

So on the eight day, after wasting time faffing about with unimportant guff like heaven & earth & the waters & sky & creatures [& having a wee kip] & man.... God created PSB (GenesiSX-R1000)

Trip was great, Took my bike to Causeway Honda and got Pete to ship it to Melbourne and flew over due to work commitments before I left. Rode from Melb to Philip Island and camped out there at the track, awsome experience. rode around Vic and NSW visiting family and friends for a couple of weeks, Some of the best rides that I did was up the Clide mountain to canberra from Batemans bay, All around the Smowy mountains, Best day by far (also the coldest) from Threadbo throught khancoben to Tallangatta then down to Bright via the Tawonga Gap (must do the Tawonga Gap if in the area) to Bright for fuel then on to Mt Hotham, Omeo, Barnsdale and stayed at Sale the night. Went to Tas for a week (to many great roads to list in tassie) then road from melbourne to perth via the great ocean road in 4 days. Could have done it in 3 big days if organised with fuel stops and more direct route as some of the service stations closed bofore I got there. Also the locals said that it was extremly dangerious to ride at night across the nullabor. Didn't have the fuel to do it or I could let you know whayt it was like. I avaraged 1000k's a day for 4 days to get home. As stupid as it sounds it was great and I would do it again, da bird was supurb, cruisy when needed and still great to go sick on the corners. If you want any more info about on the trip or setup that I use send me an e-mail ([email protected]) or we can catch up at scarps one day.

just quickly: about $600.00, I had some work done on it before it left so I don't know exactly, but you can always (wait for it) call Pete from Causeway Honda and he will look after you.

bigbird: Cheers mate! I'm still waiting to hear back from work on my leave dates, so if I'm in Oz for October I'll try my hardest to get down there.

So who else is going? Any more takers? With or without bikes.. might be easier/more worthwhile for me to go down without the bike..
