  • Your opinion on zzr

    hey all

Found this for sale on perth gumtree. Its a 1990 Kawasaki zzr250. Its for sale for $600 now,( i rang him yesterday, trying to get more info, and it was $500 delivered). Its unrego'd and not running.

However, he has had new cam chain, reconditioned carby, new water pump, new air cleaner, and head valve clearence checked. So do you guys think i should stay away from this? or seeing as he has some work done, grab it and fix it up

    cheers

That fact that you're asking doesn't make you sound mechanically confident.
I'd avoid it and find one that's not going to give you grief.

        Depends whats busted on it.

        New chain/sprockets = 300 bucks ish
        new tyres = 450 ish
        engine work =???
        fork rebuild = $200-250
        rear shock rebuild = $300-400
        rego = $200
time wasted fucking around and breaking down on rides = ???

if all that was rooted, you're up to say $2200 including purchase price, for a 1990 zzr.

You can probably get a newer running one (or a gpx, at least) for that.

        Basically - what tim said.
“Crashing is shit for you, shit for the bike, shit for the mechanics and shit for the set-up,” Checa told me a while back. “It’s a signal that you are heading in the wrong direction. You want to win but crashing is the opposite. It’s like being in France when you want to go to England and when you crash you go to Spain. That way you’ll never get to England!” -- Carlos Checa

Gumtree is notorious for scammers. If it looks dodgy, give it a miss.

Probably cost more in the long run anyway.
