Upcoming Advanced Roadcraft Ride Days

Aim
To raise awareness of riding principles that contribute to the safety
and
welfare of course participants that will decrease the potential for
personal
injury and vehicle damage.
Course Objectives
a.. Develop hazard perception techniques
b.. Raise awareness of risk potential in motorcycle riding
c.. To enhance the physical riding skills of the motorcyclist
d.. To review riding control principles
e.. Have a fun day out riding some of Perth's finest motorcycling
roads
Training Method
This course consists of one full day of rider training involving a
brief
theory session and closed track maneuvers (utilizing the Big Track go
kart
circuit) followed by a set on-road course consisting of metropolitan
and
country roads.
The theory session will cover Road Craft Strategies, including
a.. Road craft
b.. Observation techniques
c.. Hazard perception and risk management
d.. Braking, cornering and acceleration and recognizing the forces
acting
on the motorcycle whilst completing these maneuvers
The practical session will cover:-
a.. Pre-ride maintenance check
b.. Emergency braking techniques
c.. Cornering techniques
d.. Counter steering techniques and motorcycle characteristics
e.. Road planning for hazard recognition
f.. Maintaining a crash avoidance space (buffer zone)
g.. Defensive riding to reduce potential risk
h.. Recognition of fatigue and other factors affecting rider
concentration
i.. Discussion of relevant on route signage and road law
j.. Open road riding principles
Number of participants
The course is conducted on a ratio of one trainer to five trainees.
This
ratio ensures that each participant gets individual tuition and
feedback. A
minimum of eight participants is required to proceed on the specified
dates.
Learning outcomes
At the conclusion of the course riders will have achieved the following
outcomes
a.. Discuss and demonstrate Hazard Perception Strategies whilst
riding a
motorcycle under a variety of conditions
b.. Apply correct braking techniques under normal riding conditions
c.. Control of a motorcycle demonstrating correct steering, cornering
and
accelerator techniques under normal on road conditions

Pre course requirements
Each participant is to supply their own motorcycle and personal
protective
equipment complying with Australian Standards. Minimum dress
requirements
are: a properly fitting helmet, gloves, boots or sturdy shoes, long
pants
and a jacket. Pre course inspection of motorcycles and personal
protective
equipment will be completed by course instructors.
Cost
The price is $110 including GST and sit down lunch en route in Toodyay.
