  • STr Ducati Cafe Racer

I am currently doing up a Cafe racer project from a Ducati ST2 along the lines of the Radical Ducati STR but without a fairing.

So far I have a nice selection of goodies lined up to go on. List of mods so far -
    1. single side swingarm from S4R Monster
    2. Removed and remade the rear part of the frame, removed a lot of unneeded brackets off the frame.
    3. lightened flywheel
    4. High comp pistons
    5. single electronic speedo/tacho
    6. 5 spoke marchesini rear wheel
    7. taper steering bearings
    8. speedy moto top yoke
    9. monster front guard
    10. new bearings in the motor, mains, big ends, gearbox etc
    11. single seat
    12. carbon bits - rear guard, tank guard, key guard, belt covers
    13. machined billet goodies include S4R rearsets, brake/clutch fluid reservoirs, levers, headlights, rear sprocket carrier, latch basket, clutch cover, clutch slave, pressure plate, intake tubes
    14. silicon hoses
    15. custom exhaust
    16. eprom
    17. new loom
    18. new seat
    19. paint
    20. braided hoses

Bought the donor at the auction for $2500 in running condition with fairing damage and thought I would fix it up a bit but might have got slightly out of control.

I have finished modding the frame and have most of the parts, I am now at the stage of assembling the motor - just waiting to get the crank back from Ducati Brisbane after a clean, desludge and new big ends.
Motor has been stripped and painted except the barrels and heads but the paint was ok on those.

Hopefully all going well, motor will be together by next weekend once I get the crank home and check the shims.

    I'll post some pics soon.

After I stripped it down, i started playing with the way it might look including a fairing.

Cool project but all those welds should have been tig welded mate.

Will they all be hidden behind panels ?

You can't see any on the frame, and the other welds are under the seat, they were done with a mig.

As long as the penetration is good im sure you wont have an issue.

It was just said for neatness that's all.

Will be following closely looks like an awesome project.

Only one bearing was a pain to get out - gearbox bearing which required me to improvise

No where at the back of the bearing to push it out. Two pissy holes 60deg apart.

Knumbnutz supatool which I made at school 25yrs ago has finally come in handy along with some socket head caps screws machined down.
