  • Project : CR250 AF/ BH

not sure if any around here will care about a dirtbike build but here we go..

so have finally decided what i am doing with the bits of a 2005 CRF450 i acquired a while back

purchased a 1996 CR250 2 stroke motor to throw in it, CR250 AF / BH (alloy frame bush hack)

first step will be to get a roller going so i can get it tied down down on the bench and work at a decent height

2nd step make up the custom engine mounts and make sure exhaust & radiators have plenty of room

i have pulled plenty of bikes down to nothing & rebuilt before, but this is my first infusion custom.. pretty excited

will post up as progress is made...

& looking at the pictures now more closely i have already found my first problem..

it is not a 2005 at all, seem i was mislead, it has to be 02 or 03 judging buy the tank & rad shrouds

new first step is the check with Honda on exact Year lol

The 10th digit of the vin will tell you what year you have
On another note that generation of 250 engine is sweet, if you find yourself needing a new barrel down the build, go for the 2001, direct bolt on and way better port position

I've got a mountain of spare plastics and odds and ends for this project if you find yourself needing anything let me know

Why not just buy a later model Cr250 and get the newer generation frame? The electronic actuated engine works better offroad imho. Can't see the reason for this unless it was a 500 if that floats your boat. Reasons for the build Hillz

500 is useless for single trails & the old lady says i have to sell a bike to get another one & with people only buying bikes for cheap atm figured i would just build a dirtbike lol

im not a fan of the electronic power valve models, i grew up riding dirtbikes in the 90's and the 92/01 motor floats my boat for nostalgic reasons

I may get shot to pieces for this but here goes.

Pretty much a copy of a Japanese engine and parts readily available, and the Chinese are getting better and better year on year. I'm old enough to remember when people derided Jap crap, go figure[emoji848]

bit of cutting to be done, there is a conversion kit you can buy to do the job properly. however iam going to see if i can cut enough out to get the exhaust to clear. if not no harm done i have to cut that whole y section out anyway
