  • Fuel pump ticking?

So the ninja's been running like a pig. i've changed the plugs, taken all the jets out of the carbs, cleaned the carbs and still nothing. when i put it back together today n started it i noticed quite a loud knocking/tickin noise coming from the fuel pump which i'm pretty sure it wasn't doing before. do you think it could be the fuel pump has shit itself or could it be something else electrical? i was thjinking that the fuel pump would usually just die straight up and not break down slowly?
Yes officer, I did see the speed limit sign. I just didn't see YOU!

What type of "ninja" does it has carbs. Some carby's use a diaphram pump that goes thump thump but its not contant its demand driven.

mine used to tick like a bastard if the fuel tap was shut off...
There are two questions in life.
      1:Which way do I go
      2:Whats the lap record.

is there a way to test the fuel pump to see if it's shot?

If it's constantly ticking I would take it as a sign it's working.
To check it, disconnect the fuel hose at the carby and connect the pump straight up to the battery. (Green or black to -ve, other wire to +ve)
Catch the fuel in a container. Should pump a few litres per minute.

Rather than re-wiring the pump, you can just start the bike up. Should run for a few seconds on the fuel left in the carb bowls.
If it doesnt fire up, just hold the starter button for ~5 seconds.

                  And not picking up/delivering fuel.

Exactly, diaphragm pumps will tick if theyre dry. Check that the lines or pickup isnt restricted.
