  • Tyres - reviews, personal opinions. What you guys use?

I've just been on the phone to Calvin about the next set of tyres for the SP-1 and I'm hittin a wall guys.

I've always run with the Michelin Pilot Sports and always been happy with them but I want to try different rubber. I've been playing round with the Pirelli Diabalo's and not to happy with them at all. Actually I'm hearing a lot of bad reports about them to. But Cal's tld me to try either the Bridgestone 012 or even go back to the Dunlop D207 or D207RR.

I used to hate the Dunlops on the GIX750 but my riding has changed so much and maybe now I'd find them to be a better tyre all round.

    Any suggestions or anything guys?

im gettin some brdigestone 012 or 001s so i can let u know how they go ...

they are actually softer than a SC1 ...(apparently) and do feel much softer to the nail test....

i have been warned tho that these tyres will wear farily quickly .... still willing to give them a go ..
Some say he eats sidchrome for breakfast

Some say he only showers on even days of the week

Some say he put an R1 motor in a coffee machine

All we know is he's Hewie.

if you're happy with the pilot sports then stick with them. not really helping am i?

may be give pilot race ago if you're after something more sticky. I just put on a set of Race H2 and the R1 just loves it.
and of course there's goods and bads of these tires but you know all that anyway...

Well thats what I was thinking originallu anyway, when you're happy, stick with it! But what if I'm missing out by not trying something different?

I bet you anything, later on, it'll be all to hard and I'll end up getting the Pilots

Thanks man, I'll be selling my Pirelli Diabalo front tyre, so if you know anyone, I'll get rid of it for around $100

                  Tyres

Campo what type of riding are you going to do.

                  Track or mainly road usage?

If track try a Bridgestone 020 SS, super sticky but wear out quick.

If road, Bridgestone 020 which supersedes the 010.

I have used 010's since my first blade and swear by them cold or hot. No sliding, heaps of confidence up front and great feedback through the bars.

Surprised you don't like Diablos. Never used them before but haven't had a bad report received back at the shop.

Don't like Dunlop myself. No confidence in the front end. Michellin are great once warmed up.

You never know if you don't try. At least you know you can happily go mack to the Michellin on your next set if you don't like what you purchase.

                  Madmax.

Hey Chook, mainly road use but that will change when I get a 1 pce suit for the track. We have trackdays here twice a week so I'll be getting into that for sure!

So yeah, mainly road runs with a solid country run every couple of weeks. I've reduced the amount of kms I do by living on the base that I work on so the only time I do hit the road is weekends and such. I've been getting better on the SP to, becoming a little more aggressive and re-gaining some confidence back after witnessing a few spills and having my own off in Dec last year.

I'll try the 020, I'm interested in how they'd go.

campo, have you got the diablo corsas or just diablos? i have the corsas on my sp-1 and they are awesome. they warm up pretty quick and (in my opinion) are the best road tyre i have ever used. i don't know how long they last coz i haven't put many k's on them yet (only about 1500)

i've also had them up the track and they perform just as good there. the standard metzelers were nowhere near as grippy and slid around a fair bit when getting on the gas - racers can do that - i can't. when i put the pirellis on the sliding disappeared. for a tyre that will be used mainly on road but won't let itself down on track i reckon they are the go

Hey Jarrid, yeah mate, they're just the Diabalo's. Not to fond of them at all so really looking at going something different, think the 020 might be a good shot to try out!

As I have told you before, Try them your self and make your own mind up.
As you can see everyone has a different opinion!!

The softer the tyre the less km's you will get out of them. The Dunlop and Pirelli are a quicker steering tyre than the some of the other tyres.

What is recomended for the SP-1 is Dunlop, I would use the 208 not the 207. If you wait a month or so Dunlop have there new 218, as seen at Philip Island on the new R1, ZX10R, Aprilia.

Remember the SP-1 is not a quick steering as some of the 4 cyl (R1, Blade).
                          Your bike, your choice!!........ :?

Damn, put back in my box AGAIN!!! Hmmm, if my tyre holds out for another month (yeah right) then I'll look at the new Dunlops but like you said to mate, try the 010 / 020.

                              Hey campo,

                              Calvins advise sounds pretty sound!

I have put some super corsas on the bike for this weekends track day meet at barbagello. should be interesting to see how they perform.

I stuffed up though and ordered a 120/60/17 for the front thinking thats what it already had on it but it had a 120/70/17 instead.

Joe (mechanic) thinks it won't be a drama seeing as i'm riding at the track. Smaller profile should give me quicker steering I believe.

                              Any thoughts Calvin?
