  • Advice on buying a used Vespa 125

Hi all, my mum is looking at buying a 2003 Vespa 125 in pearl white with 28,xxxkm for $2,200.
Seeing as I know f/all about scooters, I thought I'd put it out to see if anyone can give me some advice on anything I should look out for, expensive 30km services etc.

    Cheers.

2 stroke/4stroke air cooled/water cooled. I had a 125 four stroke Gilera for a couple of years as a commuter didn't miss a beat, at 28 000kms it will be very close to its second belt and probably a set of rollers. Other than that providing its been looked after no real issues valves are screw and locknut from memory.

I know it doesn't answer your question, but my mother (who was 56 yo+ at the time) bought a pink Vespa thinking she'd save money.

She binned it down the ramp into her underground parking when she slammed on both brakes and slid it into a pillar. Make sure she knows how to handle one and herself, or this could either be very hilarious, very painful, very expensive, or a combination of all 3.

EDIT: n/m, I clearly didn't see the 125 part - she's obviously already licensed for it. Still a good laugh at my mum, though.

Thanks fellas for the [mostly] useful info!
          It's a 125 air cooled 4 stroke

Give Franzone Motors in east perth a buzz. They know their vespa scooters inside out and will be a wealth of knowledge.

Vespas are the HD of the scooter world. That's what I was told anyway.....
I own both and really can't see the link (except overpriced when new and then hold their value....maybe that's enough??).
I think they are a good idea for mothers. They are actually a great idea for Perth, but not on PSB!

Franzone Motors are no longer in existence John has retired and Joe is working with prestige motors (I think) in Burswood although last time I spoke to him they were still doing something with piaggio if you can track him down its well worth talking to him.

I would suggest calling Steve @ Ace Scooters in Joondalup.
Vespa Dealer, and Bill the mechanic is the only one who touches my Vespa.
