  • No oil? make homer go something something "BANG!"

As most of you know... my blade is royally rooted.. shes suffering a spun bearing and im up for around 3k for repairs, my bike shop says this is probally due to too many wheelies, hence stopping the flow of oil around 3rd gear somewhere.... is there any mod or step i can take to help my engine stay lubricated for longer while pointing to the sky? certain oil perhaps? etc or could there be a problem elsewhere? and my wheelies not actually being the main problem?

Was the engine stock before it died, or was it already re-built by someone?

The first thing would be to try and get some analysis done so you can determine the cause.. I guess a combination of metallurgical analysis (i.e. send the bearings, maybe even the crank if you can) away to someone who can look at it for you; as well as sending a sample of the oil to one of numerous companies who can analyse it to see what's going on.

It'd make for interesting reading I think, with some professional opinion you'd be able to tell if it was a starvation problem, bearing-to-crank clearance problem, or even a problem with the oil itself (i.e. needed to be changed, had lost most lubricating qualities etc).

Sadly I can't point you in the direction of who you'd talk to, but someone must know...

So it was already re-built, then? Meaning it was not 100% stock from the factory?

I'd definitely get the analysis done I mentioned. You should be able to tell what the actual damage was (bearing overheating, bearing melt, bearing failure, whatever) and decipher what it was that caused it (poor clearances, oil starvation, oil pump failure, whatever) and then point the finger accordingly.

and any bike shop can preform this?

and this'll help be to avoid the problem in the future?

            thanks 9

CAD , make sure u take it to a reputable mechanic
as most M/C mechanics arn't even qualified to
current industry standards. - I do know a good one but he is not cheap
so pm me if u want his details
Definitely sounds like an oil starve prob to me so get the bottom end
blueprintted to make sure the oil feeds are at thier optimum
hope u get it sorted soon as winter is just around the corner
