Rearsets...ive seen em around..what EXACTLY do they do... what is the benefit of having them? why are they so ridiculously expensive? any info would be cool guys...
Rearsets allow the pedals to be moved anywhere, really - up, down, backwards, forward. They're expensive because they're usually made out of something nice (like billet aluminium, or even titanium), they're very adjustable, they're very light, and because evil manufacturers are trying to make money.
i,ve put rearsets on my R1 only because im racing this season and it will give me adjustments which i never had before.firstly i can raise the peg to give me more ground clearance and help stop the end of my boot(toe section)
from scraping on the track when the bike is tipped over as i have a habit of sitting in this position(penguin style).secondly to put the pegs as far back as it will go as this will make me pull my legs back and lean more forward which will theoretically put more weight on the front to stabilse the bike at high speed, lets say when im coming over the main straight at wanneroo, over the hill,if i dont lean forward, the bike will start to headshake, the rearsets makes it easier for me to do this.well thats my interpretation of why rearsets are the way to go if you can afford them.for a street bike i wouldnt waist my money. If anyone wants to add to this feel free,as im not an expert at it.
i'll add to that, REARSETS ARE FOR PUSSIES!!!
scraping pegs and toes are the best fun you can have on the track, i've already gone through 4 sets of toe sliders and lost tips of my pegs...
btw, i'm only saying this cos i'm still waitin to get those reaset thingys..

all that waist, and your still slow.HE HE HE HE,BITCH!
i sit like that too gohan...but i do it because of a medical condition - not laziness. i went right through the slider and into the leather on my brand new boots last weekend. i've worn away the bit that allows replacement sliders to go on as well. spewing!
you need to get a set of adjustable rearsets jarrid.once you,ve got them, you,ll never look back.so much better for the track.ii bought mine from one of the wreckers i deal with in canada.cost me $270 all up.they are s/h but look new.they would retail for around $750 which is a bu..s..t price.look on ebay and you will find a set.just make sure they look solid and are adjustable, and you can buy the pegs etc.
i'll have a look - but have already spent too much cash on bikes recently. i spose a bit more won't hurt though... :? what i am definitely going to do is increase the thickness of the seat so i have a chance of getting my toes on the peg rather than the instep as it is now. i get caned through the left hander but can't go any faster without digging it in.
back to the topic though. i don't think rearsets become necessary until you get to a very quick pace (or are riding an old H.O.S.). i could get the pegs down on my sp-1 but only if i was getting lazy and not hanging totally off. proper riding technique will allow you to ride around ground clearance issues (up to a point of course). i think you'll find that most of the adjustable ones are heavier and stronger than stock (but if you're worried about that much weight have a shit before you ride). i have heard of people that reckon they act as a pivot point in the event of a spill much like an oggy knob. another factor is comfort. some (not all) adjustable pegs can go down too to give a more relaxed riding position. they look trick too...
