  • 2012 Ninja 250 - ticking after getting warm?

    hi,

bike is making a weird tick tick tick tick sound once it gets warm. not at start up and very audible at idle once warm.

doesnt seem to increase freq with rpm. that or it gets quieter? idk.

is this still OK to ride, what should I be looking for/do?

Replace the cam chain tensioner and/or get valve clearances checked.

What sort of RPM? I know on the BB's they get a rattle around 3500k that some have said is like marbles in a tin can I replaced mine at ~125k when I started getting some noise but while it did help a bit it didn't make a huge difference I've since found out my cam chain was a bit loose and got that replaced just a few months back when DB did a service and that reduced it quite a bit
Also, try pulling the clutch lever in while it's idling, does it go away or get less, if so then that can be a sign of a worn clutch basket
My BB has a rattle when at idle and it largely goes away when the lever is pulled in
