  • Exhaust Painting/Coating

After a bit of advice on Exhaust painting/coating.

The Exhaust header and pipe on my CBR 600 (carbon steel) are rusting quite badly. I had a go at painting them about 4 months ago using VHT High Temp Paint but the paint is flaking off and the rust returning.

Keeping in mind the bike is quite old, ceramic coating is probably too expensive.

Can anyone recommend a cost effective coating/paint? or someone that can do a resonable job?

    Cheers

Did you prep them before you painted them ?

Id strip them back, wire brush all the rust and ranex it all then reprime and paint it again.

The ceramic coating is about $330 - $400 for a full exhaust.

Never really seen VHT last very long TBH the good thing about pot belly black is its black so blemishes rust comming through tends to blend in, it isn't very fussy about surface prep and basic wire brushing. It will look a bit crap after a while but a bit of a clean up and another cost fixes it really quick and usually the quanities it comes in you have quiet a bit left.

Can just make out the exhaust in this pic, up under the seat. I got it done in blek so it'd hide better, in relation to the rest of the bike.

You can also see the pipe down under the YAMAHA underneath the bike, done in a blek ceramic, here as well as the springs, which were Teflon coated. The straps on the cans were done in Teflon, too, as they were stainless and would have stood out like dog's bollocks.
