  • Cheapest Air-Con re-gas in Perth

Pretty self explanatory, the car is a ~2005 odd Ford Focus 1.8 and needs a re-gas before summer for the air conditioning.

Cheapest quote my sis has been able to get so far (her car) is 260, which to me seems steep but really I have no idea.. help!

Where did you get that quote from? Best I've had is 500. Thank the carbon tax - the gas cost is through the roof

She didn't specify, just said that the going quote was 250-300 odd, like I said I don't even know what it is worth, but it seems steep that's all. if it's fair it's fair.

      UPDATE
      ---------------------------------------------

Apparently one of these guys said that the gas was 50-60$ and the 200 extra was labour?!

It´s probably otherwise around. The gas has become ridiculously expensive with the CO2 charge

List price for the most common vehicle A/C refrigerant is currently $186/kg.

I'm a bit behind on the Air Con rules now but it used to against the regulations just to top up the gas, if its down a bit the the system will need to be checked for leaks, its a big fine to the mob doing the work if they breech any regs, hence most of the cost would be labor I'd recon, and some arse covering thrown in, whats labor now $100 an hr, wouldn't take much

It still is illegal to just top up without confirming and repairing the leak.

R134a is a Azeotrope so it can be reclaimed and reused if a partial charge is lost due to leakage.

I am fairly sure the drier has to be replaced every time the system is opened also.

If it has no gas it has a leak. You don't have to re fill refrigerant or top it up. I would have it leak checked and the leak repaired before wasting money on New gas

Wouldn't it be nice if (like in other countries) you could go down to your local Supercrap and buy a refill bottle for about $30.
Still, we get a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that the oxygen carbon tax is making life better for us.

Out of interest, which countries would these be and what refrigerant are they using?
