• ADSL2+ modem/router

PSB brains trust, seems I need another new modem/router. What can you recommend, since it seems I keep choosing shit ones.

Needs:
reliable connection
802.11n
not too expensive
Will last longer than 18 months

Desirable:
GigE

Don't want:
anything with netgear written on it. I've had a bad run with netgear.

Go.

(Apologies for bad grammar, writing this post on my phone due to dead modem).

Telstra provide to Business customers the Technicolour TG797, Netgear 2020, and a Ciscon which I cannot remember at this point in time.
Peace out

If you just want a basic modem/router and cheap and cheerful - TP-Link TD-W8960N should do the job for about $45

I've been using a Netcomms for as long as I can remember. I tend to change them over every 2 or 3 years anyway just to keep up with the changes in technology.
Don't even think about it. You know who you are.

Going to cop flak for this but...

IMHO, almost all current "consumer grade" routers are garbage. If not hardware wise, certainly software wise, as the current epidemic of security vulnerabilties being disclosed for them confirms.

I'd maybe consider a draytek, but if you actually care about havng something decent and are somewhat technical, get a cisco and spend some time to learn to configure it.

Yes they're a few hundred bucks more. If you keep it 3-5 years, say 500 bucks = $2-3/week, for far more flexibility and less aggravation in the long term.

You want to win but crashing is the opposite. It’s like being in France when you want to go to England and when you crash you go to Spain. That way you’ll never get to England!” -- Carlos Checa

Cheers all.

Seems Billion have a reasonable rep, and there 7700N was only $59 at PLE, so I'm giving it a go.

thro, I'd love to go Cisco, but my current cashflow situation dictates otherwise.

Billion fine until you load it up, then the arse falls out of them.

Stay clear of dlink. I bought the latest unit last weekend. Cost me 300 from jbhifi and what a bucket of shit.
Cant remember the model number but its the tall black cyclinder one.

Good jbs return policy is great.

Definitely Draytek for me. My 2710N is as close to bulletproof as they get.
