On the plus side, I reckon the "community" might hold a welcome party.

The location of said party I propose being Pell's face, with the guest list involving only bricks.
Nice thought but it will Abbott's, Howard's or Bolt's and will likely be on the taxpayer.

    • Honestly, I thought he wouldn’t get 5.
Did anyone really believe he would get 15?
      He has influential friends.
I’d lay money down the Vatican has a few bucks less in the bank now as any Catholic influential person in this country would have received a ‘gift’ to make a phone call or/and have a lunch with the Judge.
I wonder which educational institute will be attended by his kids or grandkids?

      • For real punishment they have probably arranged for him to do his years at a Juvenile Prison as a inmate spiritual adviser.

"Is he perfect?" Mr Abbott asked. "Has he handled every issue perfectly? Of course not." - Tony Abbott

Tony Abbott, described the George Pell verdict as “devastating … for the friends of Cardinal Pell”.

The former prime minister John Howard has described Cardinal George Pell as “a person of both high intelligence and exemplary character” and says that his conviction on child sexual abuse charges doesn’t “alter my opinion of the Cardinal” in a character reference.
What Abbott said is true...it would be devastating for friends of the Cardinal..

And I kind of like the fact his friends are sticking by him....will have a different opinion if they stick by him if his appeal is unsuccessful. (Which I doubt due to his many friends in high places)

But it is worrying that Abbott has opinions but doesn't actually read the evidence..oh hang on...this is the climate change skeptic we are talking about.

Buuuut, Pell loses his appeal but could appeal to the high court: https://www.afr.com/work-and-careers/leaders/george-pell-loses-his-appeal-20190820-p52j0d. Could be stripped of Honours according to ScoMo (I'd be surprised if he wasn't...).

              • I'm very surprised he lost. Knocks my skepticism for six.
A good result, but there is no joy in it

I'd be amazed if ScuMo and his cronies did anything even IF his next appeal fails given they were almost on their knees sucking his dick before he went to court saying how good a person he was and how much good he'd done for religious people

""Mr. Morrison was determined to bring as part of his delegation Hillsong Church Pastor Brian Houston — the man he frequently refers to as his 'mentor' - but the White House vetoed the idea, telling his office that Mr. Houston was not invited, according to a person familiar with the discussions. Brian Houston in 2015 was censured by the Australian government's royal commission into child sexual abuse for failing to report his father, Frank Houston, to police for the alleged sexual abuse of children in his church."

Now that's an interesting story. As I recall, he was a cult leader in NZ before skipping to Oz in the 70's. It appears he bailed out before the rising tide of abuse allegations hit him. His happy clappy style picked up in Oz and spread across this country. About the same time kiddo was learning to ride motorcycles and get into a bit of gross materialism. Not that easy for the poor lad. For "Oh Dad" moments how do you get past constraining a KdFkr? The "nothing to see here" process occurred for 20 years or so. Successfully, as they do.

Slip in a couple of name changes for the cult over the years, shift the pedo's around a bit and bend a compliant political ear or two. Yep, nothing to see here indeed! As I also understand, they are now effectively a franchise with a cool name brand influential in the School Counselling trade.

As also often happens with the KdFkrs, they die of old age before being held to account for their crimes.
