• ACDCFANWTK- tripple lock security doors - lock replacement

Hi PSB brain trust colective
Can you please tell me how hard is it to replace triple lock on security doors without taking it apart? I have Westral security door and Austral triple lock installed some 16-17 years ago

Maybe paging keys

3-4 days ago a problem has occurred, I will try to explain.

You have this latch on inside of security door which allows you to lock/unlock the door without a key , but it can be locked with the key and it cannot be opened by hand ( just in case thieves try to cut flynet and stick fingers thru to push the latch and unlock it). Here is where the problem is. We can lock the door by hand and open it but when locked with key it can be opened by hand. Something has gone wrong somewhere.

Looking at security doors, it seems that these consist of 4 parts ( 2 bottom & 2 sides) riveted together, and I cannot see any other way of replacing it without taking door off of hinges and drilling rivets out to get to the locking mechanism... That seems way to much trouble.

So off to you brain trust, please throw some ideas and suggestions.

Like most things these days lots of locks are cheap and 16 years is about thier life span , at a guess a cast component in the lock case has shit itself, cheapest and easiest way to repair would be to whip the door off and drop it off to your local locksmith , will save you the drama of working out what lock or parts need replacement , you don't need to pull the door apart .

Thanks keys.... How long does it usually takes for repair? 1 day or longer?

Triple locking only engages when key is turned so will be something wrong with either the top or bottom part, most common is the alignment with the strike.

Best test is to hold the door open and press the top part of the latch (You will see its in two parts) and then try turn the key, if it locks then it is the alignment and if not then as Keys said take it to your local locksmith.

I've got the same door and lock system, having exactly the same issue at the moment..
Might do as above and take door off and to a shop

That's incorrect. The triple locking works with the snib aswell not just the key.

acdcfan your in Kallaroo aren't you?
You don't need to take the door off.
If you lock it with the key and then can unlock with the snib your lock is fucked as keys said.

The problem you will have is the distance between the lock and the triple locking at the top and bottom of the door, there are different lengths and with how old your door is they may not make that length anymore.

Which part of the lock? No I am not in Kallaroo , I am SOR

Barrel or actual door lock? Mind you I can still lock it with the key and unlock it from outside. It can be locked on the inside with the key too but it can be opened by hand which was not the case few days ago.

I simply searched whirlpool...for " triple lock security screen door lock fail" yeh long winded hey.?

For a few years there have been issues with certain brands of door.. 2 x main manufacturers ..

Shoddy fitting-poor alignment- what to use for lube..etc etc....

I know enough now to be able to fix your door....so the info on there should help you as well.

I would say the snib lock out has broken off. As you lock the door with the key an internal lever moves over the snib button making it inoperative...in the ones I have fixed. I have sourced new locks from security door manufacturers before now...as long as they use the same make.

Good luck

As keys said. The lock body is fucked. Your cylinder (barrel) should be ok. There are multiple things that can be wrong but the main thing is if you lock it with the key and then you can unlock it with the snib your lock is fucked and needs replacing.

Your lock is that old that the triple locking will probably not fit your new lock.
