.. a few points based mostly on what has already been said:

. to my knowledge the IP of your previous work wasn't yours, that IP is vested in the previous business you worked for & is part of the 'value' the administrators of the previous business should be protecting to allow a sale of said business
. if the previous business is being wound up then the entity in which the IP is currently vested will disappear, assuming the IP isn't sold then you'd have to check with an IP lawyer to clarify if the IP is released to the public domain or held in some way

. an interesting process to go through, even casually, is a S.W.O.T.C analysis, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, contraints; a good start point to understanding the context of what you do
        - this will often point you in the right general direction for marketing; see if the marketing peeps you talk to mention anything akin to this kind to thing, how they understand your business & the context in which it operates .. or are they gonna use a generic one size fits all approach
. marketing is all about getting paying customers, reataining paying customer, growing the current paying customer base (growing the business itself)
        - strategies vary/change depending on where you are in the 'cycle' and as available resources will vary
        - look to vertically integrate with complimentary businesses based on mutual referrals, so a photographer (a few on PSB to start with) may recommend you & you do the same for them .. pick good peeps to work with; an Art Gallery may recommend you, etc
        - this costs no $$ but much talk & shoe leather
        - look to horizontally integrate aspects of your production, for example instead of buying the frames in custom manufacture them, you retain/generate more $$ but also carry the extra costs & risks; use this as a point of differentiation with competitors

. your website is like your 'shop window', if its crap then peeps will have the same view of the business, you're better off not having one, most of the time, than having an aweful one
        - Titan are aweful, at least in my experience of having a coupla clients use them; work is now done in South Africa, reps change at a rapid rate, no office in Perth, poor designs requiring much SEO spend to keep it ranking (SEO packages is where they actually make their $$)
        - if the dollars are there get a bespoke site built, a lot more dosh but a FAR better tailored result; most template based sites, Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, etc are generic crap built by peeps with almost zero knowledge of the underlying tech or any design 'nous'
        - the argument peeps make is with a template is that the design stuff has already been done, hahahahaha
        - the security of these site is mostly woeful, look forward to having your site 'pwnd'
        - a well designed site will rank pretty well based on its design alone, any SEO spend is then used to enhance its performance; SEO should NEVER be used to make up for the deficiencies of a bad site, costs a fortune with limited results
        - SEO is/will/can be a bit of a black art with few able to do it consistently well, if someone tells you they're an SEO expert be very wary
. consider, is it important/relevant if you like the website, ABSOLUTELY NOT, it is designed for your customers & to beat your competitors; it can be hard to pay for something you don't like admittedly

The ip is an interesting one.
Who owns photos now the old company is gone?
I took most photos of my work on my phone so obviously i have copies of them.
The ex boss was told she cant use anything from the old business to promote herself doing something new... Using the old name is a big no no... But she was doing that anyway. Can she use the photos? Probably yes....
Is it right for another framer (her new boss) to use those photos to promote themselves?
Dont know on the legal status... But one framer using another framers work to advertise is a pretty shit thing to do in my book... And in the book of all our suppliers and other framers ive talked to as well.

She also put in a complaint against me to the administration for putting on my website that i used to work for her company and using the photos.
Short version is they told her stiff shit... Its my resume... And im not doing anything wrong.

But back on point.... Websites and marketing.

Ok... So No titan!! Got it!

And while my website isnt great... Mostly photos and where to find us... It will have to do for right now.

What i really need is for it to show up on google and to get our name out there in other ways somehow too?

Theres been some good ideas and advice so far from everyone and i thank you all.

Anyone heard of little Llama digital??
I was told they were good... Theyre in joondalup.

Facebook is the biggest tool we had for getting our business booming. sure it helps my wife does digital marketing and was able to set it up so it targeted people searching similar content, but i live in geraldton and we had 2 competitors in the small town and took all the work with worse equipment because the other 2 didn't advertise as well. id talk with a digital marketing guru and make sure your not wasting efforts where they wont matter.

if you dont use Facebook along side a website u should. we recently closed down to move onto bigger and better things but the last 3 years we were running our website was dodgy and unfinished but we had booking most weekends.

run some promos on the local buy and sell pages "with admin permission" , we used to do the old like and share our page for your chance to win a free booking. or a good one is most likes wins because then the people trying to win go out of there way to advertise for you.

the biggest thing is get pages manager and check it at least every 30 mins. if someone is asking a question and u dont reply they will move on to the next place they can find. in this digital world when your selling a product and not a service its a very fine line between someone shopping local or shopping online.

While everyone is on about farce book, don't forget that a surprising amount of people don't use farce book ( including me ). I would imagine that your clientele would contain a lot of "mature" people, and they're not typically good with tech, or looking at farce book on their phone every 5 minutes. On the other hand almost everyone has access to, and can work, google. Like someone said some posts before, I also skip the google ads, and then click the first link on google that sounds like it's what I want, and work down the list from there.

Good luck dude, and I agree with Loud, you need to get a lawyer to hand your old bitch boss her arse. She's obviously got no morals, and needs a lesson in respect and general decency.

I spoke to a photographer that uses titan the other day... Theyve not been impressed with them so far either.

Theyre going to come see me for some prices tho so that could be alright.

Got some car magnet signs coming in the post, and some flyers going in a photo exhibition i did some framing for... And all going well i'll take up the psb sponsor thing in a few weeks too.

Had a couple if the old clubs/customers come in on the yesterday too after i sent out some more emails which was good.

Just got to get google sorted and work out how to put a sign on the bike... Am thinking a top box for the back with a sticker on it?

.. as an IT Consultant myself I have a few good contacts that could help in this area.

I have a long time friend/associate that has a digitally focussed agency, I say focussed as they lean in this direction for most stuff but also work the traditional stuff when appropriate. They prefer to work with the client to understand the whole business & between them come up with a marketing plan which drives everything. Expertise, experience, & talent has a cost tho.

Hit me up via PM if you'd like more info or a chat about it.
