  • LCD Screen Resolution - help required

    OK,

I'm after an LCD screen for the laptop - while in desktop mode. The thing is, i can't match the 1680x1050 resolution that's native to most screens now...

My lappy has a bunch of resolution options, all around and way beyond the above one, but nothing real close - will the screen by 'fuzzy' if i don't match the stated native res?

    TIA

Have you tested it on one of these screens?

Once its detected the monitor, it should be able to match the resolution just fine

I've seen the odd unit that just couldn't support some resolutions (for no good reason), but they've been few and far between. If in doubt, just try it out at a store before parting with the cash, but you should be fine no matter what screen you buy.

If Cam's advice doesn't bear out(it should) then do this:

*Assing about in your registry is done at your own risk*
      Open Regedit and go here

      HKEY Local Machine
      Software
      Microsoft
      Windows
      CurrentVersion
      Control Panel
      Settings
      Video
PCI:<whatever your primary graphics cards is here>
Monitor:<the monitor you have installed, or if none, default>

once here, create a new KEY called
      1680x1050 x 60Hz
      the open it
and create a new DWORD value called
      32 bpp
open that and set it to 1
      restart your machine.
and voila, you should be able to select 1680x1050 @32 bpp
"In all the human societies we have ever reviewed, in every age and in every state, there has seldom if ever been a shortage of eager young males prepared to kill and die to preserve the security, comfort and prejudices of their elders, and what you call heroism is just an expression of this fact; there is never a scarcity of idiots." -The Culture
