  • Screen resolution issue

My screen flickers/changes colour like it has no signal when i put it in resolutions under 1024x768, for e.g playing starcraft.

I just formatted thinking it was that since I overwrit some system files awhile ago but that hasn't fixed it, I'm guessing its a graphics card issue?

    Anyone got any ideas?

Starcraft is more like 640x480 i think
I've managed to play it in windowed mode but that won't fix the other games Kinda sucks with the LAN coming up.

I've tried updating drivers, formatting, will take gfx card out and give it a blow

hmm what screen are you using an lcd or crt?.

And yeah I forgot just how old starcraft was for a moment there, back in those days a resolution of 1024x768 was freaking mind blowing in a game :p

Some LCD monitors don't accept inputs below a certain resolution/frequency for some reason.

I tried booting an old Win98 machine a while back and worked with a CRT, but not with the LCD screen I bought in 2006.

Which is making me think its the gfx card, will give it a clean out tomorrow when i can be fucked crawling under the table and removing cables

Yeah it could be or as said before it could be your lcd, one of the power supplies in the screen itself died on me and I had similar symptoms, although mine was across the entire resolution range. Unlikely but a possibility. If you have a spare one try another video card, if it doesnt happen anymore than you have found the problem, likewise if it still happens maybe try and change the monitor if you have a spare aswell.

Well my onboard network interface died couple days ago, Pulled the box apart and dusted off the video card while at it. Turned it back on and vid cards still homo and the NIC still doesnt work.

Just bought a $20 PCI network card, turned it on and VOILA everythings working fine, including the vid card woooo happy chap
