  • Free falcon ute - not running.

1998 Falcon XH Longreach. Not running. Not registered. White. Auto. About 330 000ish kms.

    Good bodywork & panels.
    Good wheels.
Brand new radiator, only used for about 2 weeks, probably still under warranty.

I don't have the time, money, patience, knowledge, tools, or interest in getting it running. Cracked head, probably fixable if you know what you're doing. For me it's more expense than the ute's worth. Just want it gone so I clean my driveway.

    You take it away.
No parts - all or nothing.
    Phoning wreckers today.

    Nollamara.

First dibs. Do you know if it's just the head?

don't know for sure. But a lot of coolant got into the motor, so I don't know how big a drama that is. With a charged battery, it'll start for now, but I wouldn't like to drive it anywhere, even if it was registered. Likely to bomb out at any moment.

Do you happen to know what engine it is? 1998 models were apprently either a 4L V8 or a 5L inline 6.

it will be the 4.0 inline 6 because the 5 litre v8 had iron heads and didn't have the same issues with corrosion or cracking

common issue with these may be relevant since the radiator was mentioned being new, when you flush the cooling system sometimes it loosens up corrosion in the water galleries in and ruptures at the head gasket either water in the oil or straight into the cylinder and a cloud of white smoke.

It may be repairable with welding etc but at 330,000kms may be past its use by date.

There's a company up in Bellevue that do cylinder head reconditioning, will give them a call tomorrow.

I just sold a registered AU wreck for $700, put it on gumtree if no one fronts up soon and make a buck or two . . .

i just clicked the photo thumbnail and zoomed it's got 4.0 on the grey strip behind the front wheelarch so definitely the alloy head inline 6, i haven't kept up with prices since i don't build engines anymore but you're looking at 5 or 6 hours work minimum if it's the usual corrosion, it has to be ground out and welded then ground again then straightened, lined bored for the cam and surface ground for the head gasket, hopefully the head you pull out is repairable and you can just pay for an exchange head.

sometimes the individual jobs charged at hourly rates or job rates can end up costing more so find out what an exchange head is worth either way, i'm spewing you beat me to this one i have one the same model in the driveway that needs some parts
