  • Fat kids

I saw a really fat kid the other day, maybe six or seven, he wasn't just large; he was an Augustus Gloop looking motherfucker with his gut hanging over the waistband of his shorts like he'd been drinking beer and eating chips for 40 years.
Imagine a 7 year old with the physique of a truck driver but without the meth, masturbation issues and dead hookers if you will.
This caused me to question that if parents can be prosecuted for not feeding their kids, which would be classed as a classic case of malnutrition, why was this kid allowed to be so fat?
Does not a diet of soft drink, chips, pizza and whichever breakfast cereal has the most sugar content amount to malnutrition and child abuse as well?

    Why children are getting fatter

See it all the time. It is abuse. Poor babies have lost the battle before they have even had a chance to know what its like to be healthy because of the ignorance and flat-out laziness of their parents.

I agree on the over feeding being a form of child abuse..

What shits me is seeing them in supermarkets. Mum, dad & kids all morbidly obese and by looking at the shopping trolley you can tell why - frozen pizzas, frozen pies, 12 or so litres of coke, chips, candy and all the fried food available!!

I don't buy in to the whole 'genetics' argument.. I've seen studies that show twins where one is fat & one is skinny, both with the same body structure. I might be narrow minded, but I think it comes down to laziness & poor choices. That is what gets passed down to the kids..

I think it is partly genetics. Some ppl can eat as much shit as they want and not get fat...case in point my husband struggles to keep weight on. I on the other hand struggle to keep weight off. Its a trait throughout my whole family. Predisposition to obesity. My kids will be the same, so im educating them in staying active, eat in moderation.

So basically, either genetics gives you a helping hand or a sponge in your arse? Do you believe the whole 'I've tried everything to lose weight & not weigh 150kg.. I just can't lose it! It's genetics!!'?? Genetics or not, I reckon you should be able to keep your weight under control..

I'm naturally skinny, but pretty much as soon as I hit 22 I started getting a little pot belly. This was too much for me & I made the conscious decision to watch what I eat & exercise a little more.

I think parents who do this to their children are horrible! Not only is this setting your child up to to get abused in school, but if this is how the kids grow up and this is all they know, it will be so difficult for them to have to completely change their lifestyle later on in life if they don't want their weight to shorten their life

I've always been big my brother has always been skinny, we're both the same height and I think he eats more than I do we should have similar genes....

2 of my boys are super skinny but my daughter is fighting the pudding in the middle and they all share the same diet...

I think we did better at this stuff before government decided to tell people what and how to eat, there was no obesity epidemic before the advent of the food pyramid and standardized diets...

People ate what was available and only ate what they needed.
Do you remember the good old days before the internet?

when arguments were only entered into by the physically or intellectually able.

Yup I'm with Manyak. If I put on 5kgs I make sure I lose it, stat. The problem stems from when someone doesn't care if they put on 10 kilos - they say it's only 10kg... then they put on another 10kgs and they say it's only 10kg... wrong, it's 20kgs, and so on. I've been on a sugar and gluten free diet and I've lost 4kgs without even trying (indeed, I wasn't trying, it just happened - probably courtesy of no chocolate ).

I hate seeing the fat kids because their parents get so fucking uppity when i say "your kid being fat is your fault!"
The other thing i hate is seeing children over the age of 2 with a fucking pacifier....WTF seriously?

                    playstation generation.

when i was a kid we'd go ride over retarded stuff on our BMX
“Crashing is shit for you, shit for the bike, shit for the mechanics and shit for the set-up,” Checa told me a while back. “It’s a signal that you are heading in the wrong direction. You want to win but crashing is the opposite. It’s like being in France when you want to go to England and when you crash you go to Spain. That way you’ll never get to England!” -- Carlos Checa

Couldn't be bothered reading the articles but it seems to me that kids just don't get the exercise that my generation did.

The most effective punishment my parents inflicted on me was to ground me, not being allowed to leave the house was the end of the world.

Electronic games were not an option.

Walking the dogs on the weekend I was genuinely delighted to see three kids flying kites and another half dozen kicking a footy.

The only other kids were toddlers in the playground, too young to be entertained by the Internet I guess.

My own son is separated and has his daughters on weekends and finds it totally acceptable to let them watch movies for hours on end, if he does take them out its usually to the bloody cinema, it infuriates me.
Occasionally he takes them out riding their quad bikes but that's about it.

When we take them out or have them over it takes an effort to get them interested in any form of physical activity.
The Zoo is apparently boring, no interest in any form of sport, they do enjoy making things in my garage but its hardly physical.

They are not overweight but it's not hard to see why so many kids are.

                          I have two brothers,

One was Fat like me the other skinny, we were fed and ate so much as kids its was ridiculous,

but no crap just good Italian peasant food, we could blame our parents and grand parents but they came from a generation that didn't have much food and compensated for it by making sure we had more than enough?

But we also played sport, ran around, bashed kids, bashed each other and basically run a muck,

Being on both sides of the fence I have learnt something, there are two types of Fat people, those that eat too much and are lazy and then there are those that just eat too much, there is a difference, but at the end of the day its not a good thing but we all have a cross to bare.

I got the impression in school that it wasn't cool for females to participate in phys ed and so they'd do everything to get out of it. Conversely I was an absolute sports nut and played it at every opportunity - I enjoyed it. I don't think the boyz liked me cos I used to kick their arses

My nephew is starting to stack it on... he's not big on the outdoors... give him his ipad and he'll be on it all day. Apparently the family was going on a health week - I'm sure that's for him. But hey, don't sugar coat it (lol), if he's getting tubby tell him, don't disguise it.

The question I was asking myself is why aren't these parents prosecuted?
