  • Cigars v cigarettes..

I don't smoke cigs, but I do love a cigar and some whisky.. I'll smoke one or two fat un's ( giggidy..) when I'm on break so say 3 a month tops..

But I was wondering about the health cons. obviously no cigars is better than some cigars, but I was wondering how much the odd cigar is gonna increase your risk of lungfuck compared to say a few cigs a week?

can't find any real info on it, so hoping one of you worldy types might have a know/have a link to some actual figures. more curious than anything

any other cigar lovers out there - would be awesome to know if there were any good places to buy in/around Perth..

I would think Cigars would be better than Cigarettes as you're not inhaling the smoke from a Cigar. But having said that, Cigar's are alot more potent so you'll probably have a high chance of getting mouth cancer more than anything to do with your lungs.

Correct - it's still not a clean hobby, the risk of mouth cancer is quite high.

I enjoy the occasional cigar myself, especially with a nice single malt. But do not be fooled - it's not the smartest hobby.

What if I don’t inhale the cigar smoke?

Unlike nearly all cigarette smokers, most cigar smokers do not inhale. Although cigar smokers have lower rates of lung cancer, coronary heart disease, and lung disease than cigarette smokers, they have higher rates of these diseases than those who do not smoke cigars.

All cigar and cigarette smokers, whether or not they inhale, directly expose their lips, mouth, tongue, throat, and larynx to smoke and its toxic and cancer-causing chemicals. In addition, when saliva containing the chemicals in tobacco smoke is swallowed, the esophagus is exposed to carcinogens. These exposures probably account for the similar oral and esophageal cancer risks seen among cigar smokers and cigarette smokers (3).

I'm not a smoker, but... IMO things like cigars and pipes are actually an experience in themselves rather than just an addiction like cigarettes. I compare it to someone drinking good scotch etc. rather than shitty beer or pre-mix. If it is an experience you enjoy then by all means enjoy it, you just need to know what you are getting yourself into, which obviously is why you asked.

What's your favourite cancer - throat or lung?

Do you mind sounding like a robot once your larynx is removed?

Do you care if your stink factor is cubed?

Do you know or care that cigars are phallic symbols and the size of the cigar you smoke is inversely proportional to the size of your dick?

If throat, no, no, no - cigars.
            Otherwise cigarettes.

            You're welcome
It didn't look that far on the map...

The occasional hookah socially for me. That's it. Been becoming a lot more common place in my circle of friends, might be because half of them are Turkish or Lebanese. Had some red bull flavoured shisha just the other night that made a nice change from Apple.

Used to smoke the odd cigar with a cognac when I lived in FNQ. Was nice on a cool night (which was rare)

Mouth cancers are probably your biggest risk, although it sounds like your smoking is an informed choice.

                  Do it and enjoy it.

That's just not true - I smoke small cigars and have a.. ahem.. teeny weeny.

Cigars vs cigarettes - I'll throw one in the other way around.

I enjoy smoking cigarettes. I don't smoke regularly any more but I do occasionally buy a packet for a pissup and then not think about it for 6 months. The smell of fresh second hand cigarette smoke pleases me except when I'm trying to eat. Stale, not so much.

I hate cigars. I don't like smoking them, I don't like the smell of the second hand smoke - fresh or stale, either. Nassssty burning turds of things.

Probably contributes to my oral enjoyment

So if I smoke cigars I will only get mouth cancer, if I smoke cigarettes I will only get lung cancer and if I smoke nothing I definitely wont get cancer. Ill give you a hint- three of these statements are wrong.
