It will be a demanding season especially for Nico Hulkenberg, piloting two cars for two different teams at the same time, oh boy the F1 drivers really have some serious skills

I have also read somewhere that drivers can choose their own numbers

and they will also have to have there numbers on their helmets?

Regarding the driver numbers I don't know why it was even changed back in 1973.... Lets hope the Ferrari boys pick 27 and I think Mr Finger boy will get 1....

Brilliant...! Was looking to post a similar thread this morning.

Two Caterhams, one Sauber and a Marussia seat are all that remain available for next year after Sergio Perez & Adrian Sutil secured their future.

                  The 2014 F1 Grid:

                  Red Bull
                  Sebastian Vettel
                  Daniel Ricciardo

                  Mercedes
                  Lewis Hamilton
                  Nico Rosberg

                  Ferrari
                  Fernando Alonso
                  Kimi Raikkonen

                  Lotus
                  Romain Grosjean
                  Pastor Maldonado

                  McLaren
                  Jenson Button
                  Kevin Magnussen

                  Force India
                  Nico Hulkenberg
                  Sergio Perez

                  Sauber
                  Adrian Sutil
                  TBC

                  Toro Rosso
                  Jean-Eric Vergne
                  Daniil Kvyat

                  Williams
                  Felipe Massa
                  Valtteri Bottas

                  Marussia
                  Jules Bianchi
                  TBC

                  Caterham
                  TBC
                  TBC
Widely expected that Guiterrez will be staying with Sauber in the second seat, although some very brief talks were had with Di Resta's management team. Some interesting facts on Paul, given that his situation and chances of staying in F1 next year are looking pretty dire...

Paul regularly outqualified and outscored Adrian Sutil. When he was teamed with Hulkenberg in 2012 the Team-Mate Wars score for the season was Hulk 11, Paul 9. From 2012 right through to 2013 he was talked about as a potential driver for Ferrari, Red Bull and McLaren. And now he's likely to be out. He beat Sebastian Vettel when they were in F3 in the same team together. Significantly, he was fairly brilliant in DTM. Some big F1 drivers have quit F1 to go into the DTM (Ralf Schumacher, Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard), but none has had any sniff of regular success. In three seasons Paul was second, third and first.

If he doesnt remain within F1 for 2014, Nico Hulkenberg has sat out a season and returned and it could be possible for Paul to do the same. Obviously he doesnt come with a big 'sponsor' package, but I think its a bit of a shame and that he has more talent (and obviously experience) than many of the "Pay" drivers on the grid... I think he's been pretty unlucky myself, but maybe I am just wanting to see Brit's on the grid...?

Also, still hoping that Caterham take a punt (I dont necessarily think its too big a risk, considering the current line-up) on Heikki.

Obviously new Regs, completely new cars as a result and significant powertrain and packaging / design issues to play out. Word is that the Mercedes powertrain is the one to have, but it'll be interesting to watch it all unfold come Melbourne!

Correct... Vettel has number 5, should he lose his number 1 plate for next season (2015).

Some talks around retiring a number for Schumacher (as leading World Champion Title holder), and if at any point anyone matches or exceeds the number of WDC's as him, they will also be able to have their selected number retired and so on and so forth.

I really don't see the point of this. When new guys come in you may only use a previously unused number until all between 0&99 have been used. Re release them in the order they became unused. Haven't done the maths but imagine it would be 20-30 years before reusing numbers was required. Long enough for any legends to have been forgotten by 90% of their viewing audience at the time.
