FWIW - why not make it a discussion.

IMO It's not really a cull ... a cull would be 'lets go out and get "xxx' number of sharks'. This is just going for the ones that come too close to the shore. Then we get to eat them as fish and chips.... just like all the other shark we eat.
It's not going to do anything to the shark populations, we would be lucky if we hook 3-4 sharks a year, it will make no difference to the amount of shark related deaths, (face it - most are down south in surf areas, not the protected zones) but it will look like something is being done, which is good for tourism.

I recently changed my stance on this shark cull business.

Partly because of all the nonsense I've had to endure from liberal, blinkered idiots on facefuck and associated media.

If sharks weren't such a marketable fucking monster, no one would give a shit. There are some awesome parallels between that Joseph Kony crap and this shark rubbish (particularly with the people propagating it).

'DURR BUT U CANT GO INTO THEIR HOME AND KIL THEM THATS WRON..' oh fuck off. Millions of more intelligent animals that live a much worse life die just to put food on your greedy plate.

Sharks swim around, minding their own business and a couple of times a year they need to cull some humans who intrude on their space.

Will there be people at the rally who have and will continue to, terrorise fishers?

The media is just trying to drum up business by baiting people because their newspapers and newscasts are empty and they need to fillet.

There are two major issues with this 'cull'.

What will baited lines do to the very fine smell detecting organ of sharks? Yes, right, attract them from very far away to come close to the beaches!

A species they intend to kill is under world wide protection. (And yes international news don't report too friendly on this approach)

Also, as mentioned above - the ones caught won't end up on any plate as they are too big and therefore full of heavy metals.

A few hundred people drown each year on Australian shores - how many get attacked by sharks? Do we have to drain the water out of the ocean now?

I posted it in the forum to let people know the time and place of the rally and not to have a moronic discussion on the policy. But alas it seems too late !

You mean there's no other food in the ocean for sharks?

You realize that the fine smell detecting organ probably prefers to pick up other shit (because it's fine).

                      Whoa, whoa, whoa...

That's the kind of attitude I'd expect a lesbian raw food vegan anti-immunizing feminist would hold...

                      Moronic because...?

                          Hardly moronic...
Although getting people offside by calling them names will not help your cause.

                            Human life > other life.

Not saying do whatever it takes to enforce this, but catching a few that might lurk too close isn't the worst we have ever done to ensure people's safety.

                              Can I be not moronic?

My take on this as a surfer and ocean user for five decades is that it is a smokescreen to alleviate people's fears and show a Gubmint being responsive.

If there has been an increase in shark numbers it has more to do with over-fishing in our waters. Any chance of this being redressed is likely to be smashed by the new Federal Gubmint undoing the marine parks proposals.

                              Back to moronic now;

Anyone got a book running on how long before the first protester removing baits is chomped?
