• Acoustic engineer or enviromental consultant

Hi in the process of submitting a planning application and require a noise and air impact report, just wondering if we have anyone in the PBS Community that does this or could recommend someone?

• #2
I'll get one of my colleagues to give you a ring tomorrow if you want to PM me a mobile number. We can do the air impact assessment but don't have the capacity to do the noise component - we can outsource that to one of our subbies. Alternatively, if too hard basket, can probably give you the deets of a company who can help you out. Cheers

Also Hazelnutty might be able to help you or find someone.
Best I can do to describe the issue is this.
Normally it goes BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, shift, BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

But now it's a bit more like this
BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-R-R-r-r-r-r-r-, shift

No offence but acoustic engineer?
It's right up there with other fancy pants titles like ceramic aquatic technician, ie, dishwasher.
Not to mention those ponces who run self help 'workshops'
Fuck right off, a workshop is a place for industrial stuff where real men do manly things and usually hurt themselves in the process.

Disclaimer:- I might have had a couple tonight, I'll seek counselling tomorrow.

Yeah right, fen shui or summat cos we all need some oriental philosophy to make our lives more tolerable.
What a crock of shit.
Sooner or later we might just wake up and accept what we are and make the most of it.
Might have gone a bit off topic here.

Any more info on the proposal? No offence to Kristy, but her company would rip you off, esp if u engage the subby through them (min 10-15% overheads)...

Sometimes you just need a statement which says that the proposed development is unlikely to increase the existing impacts, or some other wank like that..

Go and eat a snickers bar old man... You get grumpy when you're hungry...

I could make the same comment about officials at the track, who the fk needs them..?

I've used Herring Storer for noise impact modelling in the past. No complaints about their work.

Thanks for the input people, well some of you. I already have one option but as above don't feel like getting my pants pulled down, they want $$$$+$$$.

It was stipulated by the council noise monitoring had to be done before the application would be considered.

Just post a bunch of rides during the period of your baseline monitoring and you'll be sweet.

(+1 for herring storer they've been at it since the only noise was two rocks banging together)
Note: this may not be the universe where the above is relevant.

We use use Herring Storer and SVT Engineering. Thing is, you're paying engineering rates which will always be costly - one of the most expensive rates going around.

Definitely shop around. Will ask my colleague if he knows of any cheaper companies. You're probably better off going with one-man bands (usually old schoolers) as they won't have overheads, and may not charge ridiculous rates.

Ah so they need to have noise monitoring equipment... Not at home atm, but when I get back I'll go theough my notes and see who ive used before that's a one man band.
Is it Perth local or elsewhere? i know someone in Port Hedland, but they wont travel

Ask the council for previous examples of submissions. If you can get your hands on an existing one you may find it a lot easier than required and won't need to get a specialist in to sort it.

Half the time the consultants just take a few 'before' dB readings, use some existing published table for dB vs distance for certain activities (construction) and then pad a whole bunch of words and summaries around the actual data. Same goes for enviro, in this case it will probably just be for dust control.

Unless you're talking a big development, then they may want some detailed work done.
