Not that many give a shite - but it is impressive in so many ways.

      Old news now, jeez!!

Some very, very impressive work has gone into making that a reality - they've obviously got some very smart people working for them!

          Look at the speed?

It keeps on climbing while altitude going down to 218km?

          Is it just me?

haha yeh that thing cracked 20 x the speed of sound while stationary on the barge. impressive! If you look closely the telemetry says 'stage 2' - we're looking at the booster (Stage 1) landing though.

I like how they name their recovery barges after Culture spacecraft - "Of Course I Still Love You." being the recovery barge in question. RIP Iain M Banks.

I wouldn't have thought that would work in a million years.

This is actually soo awesome. The two people I showed it to at work had no idea what SpaceX was and decided it was fake.

The real test will be what kind of real world airframe (spaceframe?) life these things have with a few hard landings and a few hundred kilometer boat ride home covered in salty sea spray.

It will definitely bring the expense of shuttling equipment into orbit down, but there will be a point where cargo value vs loss probability means that older reused rockets that are in marginal condition may have to be replaced so will be more of a multi-use rocket rather than truly re-useable.

The barge is just the landing pad, it's collected by a freighter once it has landed safely.
