    Really?
I'd be pretty surprised if that were true. (Not trying to be a smart arse. Genuine suprise )

There are some available, but with very specific rules governing their sale and use.

I'm not one that's gone digging too far, but US gov rules on intercontinental ballistic missiles probably don't get glanced over too easily.
The greatest excitement comes from besting who you were yesterday.

My iPhone Gps in conjunction with the tomtom app works well on flights from kal to Perth an vice versa. And another app even shows the altitude and speed.
But I suppose 717s don't go that quick and high.

But wonder what happened to the good old hold the steering wheel and use a compass and your navigation skills...

Like yourself I thought it was burnt into the hardware of GPS chips. I just looked up the limits and they are way higher than I thought so maybe some receivers have different software limits imposed by manufacturers.

        No limit GPS for ballooning:

          Stupid me.

Was just looking at specs earlier.

          Passenger jets won't do 1900km/h.

          Durp.

Its called a two man cockpit in years go by they had a crew member dedicated to the task. I think about the only thing flying these days that still does that is the RAAF's P3 Orions not sure if the P8 will have it.
