  • Mull - decriminalised in WA

Hrm, aparently cannabis has been decriminalised in WA as of today..

From today, possession of up to 30 grams of cannabis and the cultivation of up to two plants will be decriminalised, attracting a fine or education session."

Ace, unfortunately, I know people who do.

But that's not why I brought up the topic, I just found it interesting. So many people smoke, and money is just going to drug dealers.. If other countries can legalise it without serious ramifications, why are we worried? I dont even wanna think of how much it's costing us to TRY and police.. and surely we'd rather have our tax dollars spent on something a little more beneficial to our community - like tracking and prosecuting these murderers and rapists.

Personally I hate weed, I'd much rather a pipe of cherry flavoured tobacco!

Well, where has it's use been legalised? Or even decriminalised, I can't think of a country where that's happened and there haven't been serious ramifications. Even in the Netherlands...

#9, ok ok you got me.. I have no idea! haha I just haven't heard any big stories of late from the anti-cannabis people, I assumed they'd be up in arms bringing out figures from everywhere about how bad it can be. How's south-east cambodia on these things ?

*shrug* as Danny just said, time will tell!

So much potential for opinion in this thread. What a let down.

I think the government decriminalised dope to get more people addicted to drugs.
The more addicts there are in society the more drug dealers there will be.
The more drug dealers there are to bust the more assets the government can confiscate under the tough asset confiscation laws.
So therefore the more wealthy the goverment becomes off the drug problem...

(Hows that for a conspiricy theory)?

XS: you're forgetting the roadside drug tests they're starting up, so they'll take millions in fines from the stoners as well.

Not before time, I work hard, I pay my taxes and except for rare occasions I don't drink alcohol. I just like to have a pipe or two after work in the comfort of my own home. A victimless crime that could have cost me my job.
Prohibition of cannabis is less than 100 years old and yet society functioned up to that point, so if tdrug problems are worse now than before it does not make an obvious link.
Cannabis is no more a stepping stone to harder drugs than Alcohol, or Caffeine for that matter.
Fact is 95% of all drug related deaths are caused by Alcohol and Tobacco, the last 5% is made up of all the other recreational drugs. So the 2 legal drugs providing millions to Govt coffers are the worst killers in the family.
Another point, Cannabis itself has never been proven as the direct cause of death by overdose.
I'm no more a strung out Junkie than I am a Wife beating drunk, so leave me and little pleasures alone and get the Cops to go harass some criminals.

I don't mind stoners doing their thing in their own home, at a local park (quietly) or wherever. However, I'd hate to see one jump behind the wheel of a car and have to contend with Perth drivers, from what I've seen of stoners and Perth drivers...
