  • Need help.. don't want to get high tonight

Well.. to tell a long story short, I spilt petrol on my carpet about 30 cms from my bed, so I was wondering if anyone knows of a good way to get rid of the odour so that I don't wake up with my head hitting the ceiling
Right now Im having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think Ive forgotten this before.

You mean you don't have a respirator feeding you petrol fumes all the time?

But seriously .. maybe .. just maybe .. you could sleep in another room?

I don't know what will get rid of it though, apart from evaporation over time.
      teh sig!

        Got a lighter?

If you can't actually get it out of the carpet right now, maybe just put a bin liner over it and some books to keep the air getting to it and hence the fumes.

I a bit green to the biking scene, and I was wondering if everyone keeps a little glass of petrol next to your beds, for the petrol head fairy or something!?

anyways, it might be too late now, but put sawdust or something on it, then vacuum it up.

                      hey chookie,
I think the smell of fertilizers and chlorine is more overwelming in your room.

now, where was that anti-terrorism hotline number....

Oh deary me...boys and their toys!!!

Try some detergent and very hot water or if you can get your hands on some degreaser that should work, not sure what damage it may do to your carpet...could it get any worse.

Some vanilla essence might help with the smell.

Thanks for your help everyone... I ended up putting some talculm(sp?) powder on it to hopefully soak any of it up. I don't really give a shit about the carpet.. just the damn smell. Woke up today with a bit of a headache and smelling like bloody roses thanks to the scented talc.

well seeing as petrol floats, just fill the room up with water, then drain it out.

                            too easy.

degreaser on the carpet works mint, stood in some axle grease or something last year, walked it through the carpets, and used EXPORT degreaser to clean it, and it came up mint.. in fact it was cleaner than the rest of the carpet.

but that was el-dodgo rental carpet, dunno if it'd be good for wool carpet etc

Well petrol is, by nature, volatile - so if you can heat it up a bit, it'll evaporate faster.. but don't get it too hot, you wouldn't want the vapours igniting
