  • fax stream duet and adsl

i went to get adsl hooked up today and was told because i have faxstream duet( two numbers on one line) i cant have adsl.

so i rang good old telstra

it is true faxstream and adsl wont work

for anyone else that runs a home office and needs 2 numbers coming in telstra have a service that is exactly the same as fsd called multiple number which uses different technology but achieves the same thing.
costs the same as well $6 per month.

hope this is of interest to some

ps both numbers have different ring tones on the 1 line

yeah, craig, we had to get that cause we have a phone fax and adsl all on the one line into the building, there is a different ring for each type of call (we are getting an old number redirected here as well, so there is three rings)

        Ummm, not true.

I have fax stream duet, a distinctive ring (ie 3 different numbers in all) _and_ ADSL all on the same line. It's all working fine. I even have a fax machine that picks up the fax stream duet number, etc.

I originally had fax stream duet & a distinctive ring on my first line and a second line for dial up. Then I found my second line was ADSL capable (first line wasn't because it was on a RIM). I had the main line primary number, the fax stream duet and distinctive ring transfered to my second, ADSL capable, line and cancelled the first line. It all works sweet.

As I understand it, distinctive ring and fax stream duet are in fact the same technology.

Anyway, it can be done, I've done it.

I anticipated issues so went to great lengths to ensure it went smoothly. Plenty of notice, made tripple sure everyone knew exatly what to do. In the end I was without any service at all (no phone or ADSL) for 3 days if I remember correctly. Got there in the end though. I was lucky that the tech guy at AAPT understood what I wanted and fought the battles with Telstra for me.

Hey I'd love to deal with Telstra direct for changing things like that, reporting faults, etc. It's them that refuse to talk to me and insert a 3rd party. You can't have it both ways.

I could go on as I was quite involved and do know what happened, but I've waffled enough and gone off topic.

                        Hows this for cool Telstra..

A client of mine moved office last week.. Telstra came in to move the phone lines... THey chopped off the old office, and got the cables sorted out at the new office... all good you say?

No.... they didn't change anything at the exchange... it was in fct scheduled to happen 7 days later!

                          ahhh nothing suprising there =)

When small ISP i used ot work for moved its 200 digital lines... and organised everything 5 months in advanced, ready to move servers and all the gear into new place on set date...

they hadnt even dug the lead in... =) but amazing what a contract that says for everyday past the due date is equivilent to 1 month free line rental.... that x 200 + frame etc.. they amazingly had NDC and a few boys there quick smart

you were lucky goof as telstra told me no way were they even going to flick the switch for adsl with faxduet on it. i had to change over to multiple number and the guy at westnet said the main reason that telstra sends him they no connect notices is for faxduet.

i also have a fax machine as i have full home office set up

Yeah, I encountered a lot of out of date information. Keep calling and asking if it can be done until you get someone who says 'yes'. :?
