WTB: Ford Escorts Mk1 or Mk2. Two door.

So I've got a mate, he wants two Ford Escort coupes, either Mk1 or Mk2 for a couple of special projects.

Does anyone know where I might find a couple ?

They need to be two door cars.

Condition can be anything from pretty reasonable to pretty rough but complete. But they must have a sound body.

Engine, gearbox, diff condition unimportant but would be nice if it can at least be towed.
Interior condition not very important, the exterior and windows to be as complete as possible, paint condition not important but dirty big dents and huge rust holes are a problem.

So really, I'm interested in anything with a reasonably good body, and exterior bits. The rest is not really that important.
Obviously, price will depend on condition.

There was one on Gnangarra road near Alexander road for sale recently. I dont know if its still there.

Try Tony at ERR Motorsport or Roly at Racetune. They are both usually in the know with who has got what for sale.

They are getting pricey now tho. I sold my RS 4 years ago for $8000 and even good 2 door shells are reaching $2000.

The car doesn't need any pedigree, just needs to be a two door with a sound body. Doesn't need to be licensed either.

Oh yeah, I'm out of the country till late next week so won't be looking at any till at least then.

my mate collects Mk1 escorts and races them. he would easily have the quickest 2Ltr Mk1 in WA maybe Aus. i'll ask him if he's got any spare shells. I guess ur not after a ready made race car???

RS1800 Mexico was a better car than the RS2000. Most were used for rallying in the past

^^^RS1800 is different to a Mexico. RS1800 is an alloy block and head BDA 1600 ( RS1600 ) bored to 1800, then as engine code BDG are 2000cc ( RS1600's and RS1800's both ran BDG's at various times but were not called RS2000, RS2000 is a cast iron block / head 2L SOHC pinto motor as found in MK4 and 5 Cortina's ). Mexico is a Kent crossflow iron block and head pushrod 1600 ( same engine can be found in MK2 Cortina's and Formula Ford race cars ). The factory Mexico rally cars were actually 1850cc, but for the production car they used the Kent engine in standard capacity.

Had 4 MK1 2 doors' in the immediate family at one stage, scaled back to 2 currently, and 3 MGB's.......

YB turbo, out of a Sierra Sapphire / Cosworth / RS500. Basically a strenghtened Pinto block ( 205 casting number, worth a bit if you can find one ) with alloy 16 valve head and hair dryer.

Funny story ( true ) - Kiwi Asian guy in Auckland ( Pukekohe ) classic racing scene, been racing since forever and going stronger than ever these days, I can remember my Dad taking me to watch him when I was about 4 ( I'm 33 now ), anyway he's currently got a MK11 Escort 2 door. Stock body with nice fairly plain paintjob, lowered with nice set of 15" minilites, stock interior except for drivers seat and basic rollcage. Looks nothing really to the untrained eye, just a nicely presented Escort. Nearly always on pole doesn't matter who's there or what they're running, Mustang, Commodore, big block Camaro, Corvette 454, no one can touch him. About the only car that can consistantly push him and beat him is a '83 Porsche 930 Turbo, which holds the NZ land speed record at 325 ish kmh. The Escort is running a naturally aspirated YB, out to 2.3, custom injection, distributorless ignition, Toyota 5 speed, Atlas diff. You really got to hear him coming down the front straight with 10,000prm on board!! 7 seconds off V8 Supercar lap time, not bad for a 2L Escort!! Not suprisingly he does work of some description for most of the Escort guys in Auckland, my brother included.
