  • Datto A12 motor

Anyone here have any experience with these motors? Specifically the carby on them?
    I believe it is a Hitachi DCH306.
It gets fuel starvation when hot (I believe)

The guy I bought the MG from claimed that it was a dellorto carb..
but I never actually checked... it looked close enough to the original

Dodgy seal/gasket causing evaporation and fuel to escape when hot?
So it wasn't vapour lock - or was that just part of the issue?

Could be fuel pump pressure perhaps... im pretty sure It is still on the original pump?

Other than that the datsun1200.com forum is a pretty good reference Datsun 1200 Club

and a hitachi-SU carb tech page looks like it could be very useful

Nah, not a dellorto carby at all.
I checked the routing of the fuel line and it looks fine, so I might rebuild the carb and see if I can find an asbestos gasket for it.
          Definately evap/vapour lock though.

Ahhhh my Mum had a Datsun 1000 but it had the same (or similar) carby as the 1200 but it was definitely a Hitachi. I'll have a look when I get home and see if there is any old bits kicking around to give me an ID.

PS - you'll have to use gasket paper, you would be hard pressed to find gaskets for them now.

Re: Datto A12 motor...Carb help? Many of us have experience with the Hitachi carbs.

                  DCH is electric-choke model.

Fuel starvation when hot (vapor lock) is not common in a Datsun 1200. What sort of car does he have it in?
