Freakishly large cricket

Found this monstrosity in a garage today:

The body alone (not including the barb thing) is almost 2.5" long. Its head is so big I can see its mouthpieces working away like fricken predator. Is this your run of the mill cricket thats been eating radioactive things or is it a different species? Rare? Pest? Never seen one even close to this size before

I once had what I thought was a freakishly large cricket in my house. I let him live in my curtains. Then one day I absent-mindedly flea-bombed my house. As I watched tellie that night in my newly flea-free house it suddenly dawned on me in a flash of cold horror as I jumped up from my couch. He was already gone.

It's a female - that barb is her ovipositor - she use it to lay eggs under ground. They are traditionally good luck - but would take her outside because you wouldn't want to deprive any man cricket of so lovely a female.

I once found a massive cricket like that, I was scared it would jump and try and stab me through the heart... so I just backed away and let it go find its own way home (presumably via eating hole in the wall the damn thing was that monstrous).
