  • Public shaming of convicted drink drivers

Just saw on the news that the UK has started publicly shaming drink drivers by making them stand inside an oversized beer glass in a train station with signage adjacent indicating what they've done.

Would you support such moves in AU?
In complete darkness we are all the same. It is only our knowledge and wisdom that seperate us. Dont let your eyes deceive you.

Not like that. If its like Ninja said for repeat offenders fine, but not in any other case.

It only takes one offence for the worst to happen though.

no, only for repeat offenders. and then if they were repeat offenders, HUGE fines and long term license suspension, years not months.
im a holding, stroking, loving machine...also spanking

For repeat offenders or those with excessively high BA levels even if a first offence (i.e. double the legal limit).
No amount of genius can overcome a preoccupation to detail.

I'm gonna go against the bandwagon.

YES, and especially for first offenders. As has been said, only takes one time to kill someone innocent. Perhaps it will be enough of a deterrant to save one life.

Let's face it, the first time someone gets CAUGHT drink driving is highly unlikely to be the first time they have done it.

I think it would be suitable for people on their first offence if they were in excess of 0.10% (twice the legal limit) as skills start to become obviously impaired, and you'd seriously know if you'd had that much to drink.

Second time would be excess 0.08%, third time should be excess 0.05%.

People aren't always caught the first time, despite the best efforts of the boys in blue.

Yes they should be shamed, including pics of any conquest from said night of drinking.
