  • Trying desperately to remember a car name...

.... a beer to whoever remembers what the fuck I'm talking about.

I'm trying to recall the name of a V8 powered coupe. They were produced in *very* limited numbers, powered by a Holden V8, I believe mostly cobbled together from the Holden / GM spare parts bins. Late 80's to early 90's I think.

Very exclusive, very expensive, Australian made. I think they were all painted yellow. One of them was involved in a fatal accident at (again, I think) Western Sydney International Dragway, the chap driving was something of a legend, had made a lot of previous passes in very swift cars and had only just purchased this coupe for drag racing. The brakes didn't pull him up quick enough and he barreled into the wall.

I've been wracking my brain for a day and a half now trying to recall the name of this damn car, if anybody knows what I'm on about you'd be saving me a tonne of grief.

    Thanks all

    Okay, fuck, ignore.

Just after I post, I remember it.

It was Todd Wilkes, the car was the Holden Giocattolo.

Thank fuck, I can sleep at night again.

Yeah Todd (Judge) was huge in the Commodore scene a couple of years ago.

He built a monster twin turbo V8 ute.
Some say he eats sidchrome for breakfast

Some say he only showers on even days of the week

Some say he put an R1 motor in a coffee machine

All we know is he's Hewie.

read this thread, remembered back to previously trying to recall the name of an american 80's sports car, typed "american 80's supercar" and finally came up with Vector...

Amazing how you can't recall shit until something twigs your memory.

he also fucked up that Giocattolo.

they were a heavily modded Alfa Romeo, then fitted with a Holden rear-mtd v8.

todd wilkes twin turboed his. but must've forgotten to upgrade the brakes and rest of gear to handle the extra power.

Yeah Alfa Esprite with a mid mounted ie in the rear seat. 5 Litre V8 308? was done in such a way it didn't even change the wieght distribution of the original car.
