  • Climate Change...

You can do nothing. This(maybe biased?) report will tell you why resistance is futile and we are already in your bases, killing your dudes.

Maybe these people(who predict we are going to die from global warming) havent realized that this exact same thing has been going on for atleast 1 billion years. Ice age, warm age, ice age, warm age. Like a parabola almost. We are/were long over due for an ice age i think. Besides, oceans heat up, they evaporate easier, eventually clouds block the sun, earth cools down, clouds rain back to earth and cool it further. Problem solved. The earth will kill us all off before we can kill it.

World Climate Report What You Can(?t) Do About Global Warming

Before this thread crashes and burns(although it's off to a flaming start), discussing this on the internet isn't going to achieve shit. No one is going to be swayed on such a large issue by what they read on an internet forum, especially one that is definitely not filled with scientists specialising in long term planetary scale climate systems.

    If you really want to know what's going on;

Don't go to a generic think tank.
    Don't go to a newspaper.
Don't get your info off the TV.
Don't get it from the radio.
    etc
    Etc
    ETC
And don't get it from random Blogs or forums consisting largely of non scientists.

    Go to the Arxiv..

Search for papers on climate change.

    Read many.

Form an opinion from the actual data.
"In all the human societies we have ever reviewed, in every age and in every state, there has seldom if ever been a shortage of eager young males prepared to kill and die to preserve the security, comfort and prejudices of their elders, and what you call heroism is just an expression of this fact; there is never a scarcity of idiots." -The Culture

I think you'll find the sun expanding will be the ultimate winner. I for one look forward to the day when we are all consumed in the atomic fire. inter solar system planet colonizing, ha, its a pipe dream. ;-)

You will find the media give believers and sceptics a nice 50/50 split in the air time department. If you actually dive into anything resembling scientific research, you will find the science community is actually more of a 95/5 split in favour of climate change.
But I guess two people arguing rates better than two people agreeing. (see frontline circa the mid 90's)..
Anyway, RoboCop's about to start on the tele. Now there's some motherducking science!

The climate on this planet has been, is doing, and will always be changing. Humans' impact on this change is debatable, obviously we must have some impact on it - but our impact on any natural (and perhaps unpredictable) change is also debatable.

Imho, its seems the pollies have found a way to tax the very air we breath, with this 'carbon trading' rubbish, which will achieve nothing but raise prices, profits and taxes.

Yes the earth goes through various ice ages/heat cycles and has done for billions of years. The Human race as we know it at best have been around for perhaps 100 000 years (I'm going on Darwin's theroys here and yes my relations had tails at some point I have no problem with it). Climate change will be catastrophic to civilisation as we know it to sit back and say it doesn't matter is fairly short sighted IMO.
Harvey community radio has a motorcycling show listen over the web here www.harveycommunityradio.com.au ,Facebook here http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Mo...34691323302991 yes I am the goose that hosts it.

Scientists agree human-induced global warming is real | Science Blog

I am not a scientist. In fact, I doubt most of us here really have half a clue about anything we did not just read on a blog or see on the news. But I respect the veiws of people with actual knowledge based on real research and years of dedication to learning.

If you can actually prove a source claiming the scientific community (not malinformed god botherers and others with economic agendas) is split evenly on this issue, I will gladly take it on board.

I must admit, it is a major bitch trying to find proper facts after typing global warming into google!

What the climatologists/scientists/randoms on the street(green movement) fail to see is that the sun had been and will always be the thing which has the power to kill us or keep us as we are now. Earth heats up a little bit? Owell. Earth cools down a little bit? Owell. Shit happens, is happening and will always happen. El nino/La nina(pacific ocean climate pattern thinymajig) basically single handedly wiped out north Queensland with all the flooding and winds and stuff thats been going on.

Another thought(i had whilst in the shower of all places) was maybe the centre of the earth is heating up more then before, which in turn heats the oceans and the rocks up, which then heats the atmosphere up and causes all of this. Since i started paying attention, theres been alot of 5,6,7 Richter scale earthquakes lately which means the core is getting more violent. It isnt exactly easy to move a few billion tons of rock in a split second now is it? I also noticed alot more planes falling out of the air, and this year has been pretty cold to boot. We all know the main factor that govern the well being of the earth is the sun, and to a lesser extent the other planets(although jupiter has saved us a few times), the moon, the core of our own earth and the galaxy itself to a certain extent.

What if the "universe" had different temperatures spread through out it? It's full of "dust", and if the dust was only a few degree's cooler then the rest it would affect the climate of the earth if/when we pass through them. Sounds a bit far out but you never know.

I also like how they want to make wind turbines using aluminium which uses a shit load of electricity to purify, and solar panels are about the same, needing silicon which(im assuming requires electricty to heat it since the heat can be controlled better when melting the silicon). Sure their renewable but what if theres no wind? No electricity. What if it's overcast? No electricity.

The only feasible option these days where so much power is required is either nuclear, or oil/gas/coal. Everything else is either too expensive to make, or not worth making. Atleast nuclear will keep the greenies happy, since it's green.

By the time we are putting false teeth in glasses by the bed- the world will be a very different place, partly due to climate change.

Fossil fuels will be dead and the internal combustion engine an anachronism- I plan to keep the r1 and smoke people in their electric shitboxes- high octane will still be available, it will just cost more

Read "Limits to growth - 30th year edition" good unbiased read.

My question is that; If we do discover/develop a cheap pleantifull source of energy, what will we do with it?????

Oh crap, this thread was about global warming wasnt it... Um yea, happened before - it will happen again... You dont see any of the Poms whinging about things warming up...

                              1. Probably sit on our bums hoping someone will do something about it, which never happens.

                              2. Haha yeh, i want global warming, it's freezing atm....
